You must remember that Lonzo is only two years out of high school.
One year at UCLA where he shot well.
And a pressure filled first year with the Lakers with unreasonable expectations. He had no playmakers to play with.
This year he has Lebron and Rondo.
He should take the experience to learn from the best and also
stabilize his shot.

He also chose to just chuck in games where he was super off from 3. He had a dozen 1-8 or 1-7 games...and a 1-12 game.. if he shoots a normal amount of 3s for a cold rookie in those games..he shoots 34% on the season
He made 3+ threes in a 3rd of his games... that’s so good for a rookie..
His shooting is up in the air

You can never prove the haters wrong, in their minds they will always be right. Players have fans, observers haters and that's just the way it is.

I'm a Lonzo 'hater' whatever that means. Whether his play will ever be propotional to the hype is still to be seen.
He will prove me wrong however if his play is greater than my expectation which is obviously not as high as many.

I remember when the sky was falling down after Ingram's preseason last year.

Not make or break, but a pivotal year. If he is clearly outplayed by Rondo, then he likely loses his starting spot.

Lonzo already has a lot of the tools you want in a good guard; passing ability, hops, handle, rebounding, court vision and savvy. If he gets the shooting improved and makes more strides on defense, he will be our starting point guard for years to come.

RPM

Lonzo...+1.12
Rondo...-0.97

BPM

Lonzo....+1.7
Rondo....-1.1

VORP

Lonzo....+1.7
Rondo....+0.4

PIPM

Lonzo.....+1.38
Rondo.....-0.92

I'm pretty confident in Lonzo outplaying Rondo considering he did that last year too. When all of the one-number metrics point in the same direction, it's probably true.

can someone translate that

Rough translation:

"lonzo better lol"

And he's cheaper and younger with higher upside. Look, Rondo will be a good mentor for Lonzo for 1 season. It would've been nice to have him last season. But Rondo is gone along with his salary for another max player after that.

For some reason people tend to overlook the regular season if someone has a good playoff run. That's probably why Robert Horry gets so much love. (See also Tatum/Rondo).

Horry didn’t play well in the regular season? News to me.

Horry's regular season BPM by season as a Laker:

4.8
3.5
4.1
0.3
4.1
2.0

Lakers 2017-18 BPM leaders? Larry Nance - 3.8 BPM. Next? Lonzo - 1.7 BPM.

GOAT!

That 4.8 in 1998.
Better than
Shaq: 4.6
Eddie: 4.3
Nick: 1.4

0.9 OBPM and 3.8 DBPM (that defense).

There is truth to that.

How about for the context above about who should start in the regular. Should it be the guy who had a better regular season (with unknown playoff production) or the guy who had a lesser regular season but brought it in the playoffs?

Im not looking for any trades at the beginning of the season, way to excited to see the young guys play with Lebron... so for me its a NO.

Yeah...I’m not trading Ball, Ingram or Kuzma for anyone outside of AD. Just not smart asset management.

If they want to do KCP + lesser piece for Butler (due to their situation), then sure.

Lonzo is in a really good position to succeed. I will be surprised if he is just awful or something. He really doesn't have to do as much this year imo. He has help. I don't htink he even has to take as many 3's. He really won't be in the spot of getting the rock with the shot clock running down and having to make something happen as much.

Lebron will do that, Lebron will get us the buckets that are "needed".

I think Minny would love KCP + Lance. They are hard workers that Thibs would appreciate.
