lol at people considering LaMelo a legit NBA prospect. Kid is a clown that plays clown basketball. Please just stop
Why do people want this to be true so bad?
LaMelo was a top 15 prospect in his HS class on ESPN before he went to Lithuania for his junior year and gets taken off the rankings.
Comes back as the best player on a team that was #2 in Ohio while averaging close to a triple double and gets 19 on espn's list with a 93 overall rating.
Spire doesn't even run Lavar Ball offense, he's doing this in an actual offense while being a 6'7 point guard that can handle the ball and create for himself + others.
You guys can try to fake news him all you want, but he's a legit NBA prospect at this stage, period.
1. ESPN's rankings are the worst in the business. They rank based on popularity and name value.
2. Top-20 recruit doesn't mean someone will be a lottery pick or even a 1st round pick or even drafted. Looking at the 2017 ESPN top-20, 8 of them weren't drafted or were low 2nd round picks without a real future in the NBA.
3. Melo is an awful athlete. At 6'6" he can barely dunk.
At the time of those rankings, those 20 were legit NBA prospects. At this time, Lamelo Ball is a clear NBA prospect. Maybe ESPN isn't your cup of tea, how about 24/7 (very legit in HS bussiness) ranking him as the #2 point guard in CA giving him a 5 star (.9915) ranking. Or maybe Rivals.com ranking him as a 5 star prospect may change your mind.
But anyways, as to your dunking comment, maybe you haven't seen him in a while.
Here is a video of his progression, ending with him casually going between the legs in air and dunking duuring pregame:
Here is him calling out a defender and dunking on him in a game where he casually dropped 30/13 against a team that was ranked 10 in their state:
Here is him throwing down multiple impressive dunks in game while getting the W.
Also, he was measured at 6'7 to start his senior year. You guys may not like him, but him not being an NBA prospect is completely fake news.
Didn't see one impressive dunk in any of those highlights. What I saw was a 6'7" player that had to be in full extension to make it over the rim or required a running start without having to change direction to really dunk the ball. Even his warm-up dunks don't scream great athlete. From an athletic standpoint he is below average, which will be an issue in the NBA.

If he is BPA for our pick when he's in the draft. I'd take LaMelo.
Wouldn't trade up to get him. But wouldn't avoid him either. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

That's okay, we're not all high on the same prospects. He's a legit NBA prospect though, and theres no denying that at this point. If it'll be an issue in the NBA, then he's an NBA prospect.
I've never seen an HS NBA prospect as good as Lamelo before where people just don't want to admit he's an NBA level prospect. He's not just on the top 100 lists, he's in the top 20.
He's 6'7 and has shown elite playmaking ability, better handles then his brother and a better jumpshot then his brother. Lonzo was a much better prospect but I don't know how people can look at Lamelo and deny what he has become. Show be a 6'7 HS athlete with those handles and that playmaking. _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe

Do you think the Lakers would look at him is a second round pick or a camp invite? _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!
It’s a long and interesting article, but this will give you the gist.

When Humble Lukanga was studying finance at the University of New Mexico, he read about the large number of pro athletes who went broke in retirement. Lukanga knew, on the surface, that he had little in common with linebackers and power forwards. He had spent his early childhood in Uganda, merely trying to survive.
But he felt that he could relate to many of them on one important level.
“I couldn’t imagine escaping poverty and then going back,” he said in an interview, one of only a few the normally circumspect Lukanga has given. “So I became almost obsessed with this epidemic that nobody was caring about.”
It was an obsession that recently helped him rescue Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers from potential ruin. In the process, Lukanga, a financial adviser with a growing reputation in Hollywood as a behind-the-scenes power broker and sage, found himself in an unfamiliar role: whistle-blower.
Last fall, Lukanga was doing Ball’s accounting when he discovered that about $1.5 million was missing from Ball’s personal and business accounts. Lukanga alerted Ball, who has since sued Alan Foster, a business partner and family friend, for more than $2 million in damages as part of a lawsuit that alleges that Foster embezzled money from Ball and Big Baller Brand, the sneaker company that Ball co-founded.
Quote:
“Without Humble, I don’t know where I’d be right now,” Ball said in a telephone interview. “I’d be in a very, very bad situation.”
He added: “We’ll have a two-hour meeting set up, and I’ll end up talking to him for eight hours. There’s nothing fake coming from him, which is hard to find these days.”
Quote:
After earning his M.B.A. from New Mexico, Lukanga joined a financial firm in New York. [Arian] Foster was among his first clients. He had signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent, and he was not rich. He recalled one of his first phone calls from Lukanga, who had been reviewing his expenses.
“You spent $37 at Applebee’s?” Lukanga shrieked. “Who do you think you are, man?”
Lukanga later left the firm to start his own business, Life Line Financial Group. Today, he considers himself more wellness manager than financial adviser. Spending habits, he says, are a reflection of personal values. And he wants his clients to be especially conservative with their money in their 20s.
“You’re going to hate me in your 20s,” he said. “But in your 30s, I’m going to be your best friend.”

Yeah, nbadraft.net still has him mocked at no. 12 in the 2020 draft
a point guard who can't shoot is not suited for today's NBA. just look at Ben Simmons, he's basically a non-factor now, putting up pedestrian stats and riding on the cocktails of Embiid and Butler.

Lonzo shot right around the same % (32.9%) as Ingram and Kuzma (33% / 30%)
Lonzo also shot 2.5 times the amount (from 3) as Ingram while essentially shooting the same %.

He spot shooting isnt bad. But his mechanic screw up the rest of his half court game. The guy will be crazy effective if he corrects his shot and it seems like he slowly trying to do that, but its still a work in progress

Lonzo looks like Ray Allen when compared to Ben Simmons. Lonzo is a streaky shooter and has put up good shooting numbers in the past. Simmons is just a horrible shooter. No comparison between the two.

That is a wonderful story, thanks for sharing the link. I think this story is a good example of how systematic racial oppression in the U.S. of A. is more of a myth in the year 2019, and should be praised as such. His parents definitely agree with me going by this quote in the article, "His parents described political asylum as winning the freedom lottery”. From facing possible genocide in Uganda ... to being granted political asylum and given refugee status in America ... to growing up poor ... yet becoming a Beverly Hills based financial advisor managing $120 million in assets ... this is a modern day fairy tale but one that is a true story. Hats off to Humble Lukanga.

Lonzo was the team's best shooter before he went down, IIRC (not saying much though with that bunch).
