Even Markelle Fultz is better than Lonzo now, and that dude was on his way to Anthony Bennett-hood.
It can't be stressed enough just how big of a bust Zo is compared to the expectations he came along with, and just how lucky we are that we moved on from him in time and in trade so lopsidedly in our favour.

It can’t be stressed enough how pitiful Magic and his FO was. It isn’t Alonso’s fault, he is who he is. It is the Lakers FO fault for being blind to that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Have to hand it to Lavar Ball. He hoodwinked and hyped his son to get drafted by the Lakers at #2.
I see Lamelo as being a bust if he gets drafted in the lottery. But don't worry, Lavar will hoodwinked some idiot GM to gamble on him being some transcendent player as many here thought Lonzo was going to be. I admit I was one of those members that got hoodwinked.
Sigh. I'm not mad at Lonzo. He is who he is. I'm mad at our FO for drafting a non-shooting, offensively handicapped PG in this day and age. What sucks is how damn good Lonzo is at everything else but he's just so putrid offensively that it brings down the rest of his game. I'm so, so glad we moved on from the vaunted "young core". Pelicans fans were absolutely right to laugh at our package because frankly there was nothing to be enamored about. My god. What a robbery.
People were clamoring for Lonzo, and so was Magic, so we really got what we wanted. I wanted to go another way, mostly because of his Dad. Having said that, his defense is amazing for his position and age.
I don't think he is the shooter we thought he was, but I think he still has time to improve, especially when we get to see what he does with Zion. The Pelicans are suffering with the lack of an inside presence. If you don't have a lot of shooters, you need an inside presence, otherwise your offense is going to get bogged down. Pelicans have neither of those things.
Lonzo Ball was the consensus #2 pick according to both scouts and mock draft experts. Tatum was #3, Fultz #1.
Lonzo and Fultz shot around 41% in college from three, Tatum 34%. Fultz had the highest scout rating pre-draft since Irving, he seemed like a can't miss prospect.
The Celtics played the Sixers, but they did have the high ground with the #1 pick. They also had no need for another point guard, having an all-NBA guard at the time, and not wanting to rebuild around a rookie even if they moved on from IT. Unlike the other teams with lotto picks, they were a #1 seed.
Fox would have been a better choice per se, but didn't look like the type of point guard to pair with another ball-dominant star. At the time, we had no star, but the players we were looking to develop/market were also ball dominant.

Completely agree, Lavar hoodwinked us bad. He legit had us believing we were getting a transcendent player.

What about Ingram? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Or the fact josh hart is quietly having a good season. He’s brought a lot of the intangibles we saw his rookie season.
I think Lonzo may be a 2nd contract type of guy. Don't think Pels is the place for him and I expect him to not be there long-term. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Doesn't surprise me. The Pels haven't won a game with Zo starting since Halloween.
Lavar's been quiet since he called him "damaged goods". I wonder if we'll be hearing from him on this benching. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

Nonsense. NBA scouting departments and front office's don't base their analysis on what parents think of their kids. Many intelligent basketball minds agreed that Lonzo should be picked at the upper end of the draft. Lavar actually hurt Lonzo in the draft. Boston may have taken Zo at number one if not for Lavar and his antics.

Here’s where you are wrong: Saying Lonzo is so good at everything else is just a bad take. His mentality is of a loser. It doesn’t matter how “good” he is at everything. Mentality is always the bottleneck at this level.
His mentality is weak. Period. He’s a bust. Everything else is academic.
