It will be good for Russell and even Ingram. I'm on board. Ingram never worked with Kobe. Just imagine... |

Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka smart to seek Kobe's input on players
Quote: | In a recent interview on ESPN LA radio, Johnson addressed the Lakers’ current relationship with Bryant.
“Right now we’re just picking his brain about the players because Kobe played with a lot of the guys that we have. We’re picking his brain about some of the things that he sees that maybe we could do.” |

Kobe needs to work with everyone. They need it. |
I don't think he has to "only" work with Ingram, but I think most want him to work with Ingram because Ingram's style of play will greatly benefit from Kobe's tutelage. Russell can learn from Kobe obviously, but his game is completely different than Kobe's. _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. If they ask Kobe to watch the prospects work out, then I feel like there's even more of a chance that LA drafts Jackson.
Kobe is going to love the dog in JJ, and will probably see JJ as a younger, less skilled (not an insult to JJ) version of himself. |

It's also because BI wants to work with Kobe and lives and breathes basketball the way Kobe did. There's been a lot of smoke about DLo not wanting to work on certain aspects of his game, so that has probably tempered a lot of people's thoughts on DLo wanting to work with him and vice-versa. Kobe's not going to waste his time with someone who doesn't want to put the work in.
Hopefully that turns out to be a false narrative (or at least an old narrative that no longer applies) and we see DLo working hard on his game with Kobe, but until that happens, the existing narrative is out there and is one of the reasons that people were all over BI working with Kobe, and not so much about DLo doing the same. |

For the better IMO.
In the end this organization has the 2nd worst record in the NBA in the last four seasons combined, and not even close to third worst.. In any business that track record means doom to the people in charge.
Kobe in any way bringing in advice from footwork to work ethic to drive/intensity, to wanting to win mentality is all win. |

I think Dlo stole most of his post moves from Kobe. We don't use him in the post most of the time, but Russell can use a lot of Kobe tricks. Number 24 used his footwork and smarts way more than number 8. An old Kobe was still way more athletic than Russell, but he used it just every now and then, most of the time it was pump fake, footwork and things like that. |

Magic Johnson: Lakers “picking” Kobe Bryant’s brain
Quote: | Bryant’s involvement could be some extra coaching up for the kids, something that would be very beneficial to all of the players tasked with being the future of the franchise.
Anytime you can learn from one of the greatest players of all time, you should probably try to do that. |

I'm sure he's "hyper-competitive" but his me-first mentality would not go over well with what we're trying to build here. Kobe is Kobe. His iso's worked because of his godly athleticism which no one on the Lakers have. We're teaching our young guys to GET OPEN and PASS the ball. |
Sorry, I can't tell if this is sarcasm. Forgive me. |
Sarcasm? I'm sure you've seen Kobe play and you know his style. Imagine if everyone on this team starts to think shoot first, we'd be in a lot of trouble. |
You do realize that Kobe won't be playing right? You really believe that Kobe will teach these players to be selfish? |
Well that's who he was as a player so why would I expect anything different from him as a mentor? Kobe was great because of his godly athleticism and you cannot teach athleticism. For a teacher/mentor, I'd rather have someone smart/crafty like Kidd. DLo isn't going turn into Kobe one day and start driving to the hoop and reverse dunk on people. He's going to have to use his brain to get by in this league. |
You're a high efficiency poster. It's rare for someone to expose their lack of basketball knowledge in such a tidy string of misinformed posts. |

Kobe is the 2nd greatest shooting guard of all time. Some around here would even argue he's better than MJ. That playing style suites only 2 guys in the history of the game, and they are both retired.
Emulate Kobe and it could be a disaster. Heck, even Kobe can't emulate himself. The shell of himself tried to emulate his prime days in the last two years, and it was ugly... until the 60 pt game against Utah. |
Who said anything about emulating him? Kobe has a high basketball IQ, excellent footwork, etc. You can work with a guy and not try to become them. Like someone else said, Kobe worked with Hakeem, but we didn't see him dream shaking every time down the court. |

Great news. His knowledge goes to the table and advice to the players.
Meanwhile his obsessive personality is not involved in decisions.
Very smart move by Magic and great to hearing his statements.

Kobe could have huge impacts on everyone but particularly
Zu- footwork, post game
Ingram- everything, mindset, hhhhiiisssssss
DLO- footwork, post game, mental approach to leadership
Jules- shooting, attacking the basket, defense, ducking in for post positioning |

MIMLaker wrote: | Having Kobe study footage -- the way he has done on his own for DECADES -- and then give input on either the opponent scouting or player development aspect of the team would be interesting. | kobe's basketball iq when it comes to film/scouting his own team and the opponent is the equivalent of combining analytics with a coaches basketball knowledge. thats how much he knows about the game of basketball and how to manipulate it to his liking on both ends being both a scorer and a facilitator.
it should be no surprise that after he played on Team USA, dwade and bron took their games to a new level come the next nba season.
it should be no surprise that he has had talks with westbrook during the playoffs.
it should be no surprise that he's talked to IT from boston and he hits the 50pt mark.
We know he was talking to kyrie during the finals of last year.
how many times do we need to see it to realize what kobe is even without bouncing a ball. The guy is a basketball savant. yet he's not just one on the court during games, he's one on the court in practice, and he's also one in the film room. |
