Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told Mark Medina of the Orange County Register that “Johnson and Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss have asked him to meet in a few weeks to discuss a possible role with the organization.”
While Abdul-Jabbar didn’t reveal (and may not know) what type of role the Lakers have in mind for him, it’s still notable that the franchise is making such a concerted effort to have its former superstars around the team. The two stars of “Showtime” working in the front office may not have been expected, but it’s impossible to argue with the results that tandem got the first time around. _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

The young big man may not have to do so from afar anymore, because not only is Abdul-Jabbar reportedly considering rejoining the Lakers in an unspecified role, he also “expressed interest” to Mark Medina of the Orange County Register in “mentoring” Zubac. And yes, he’s seen Zubac using his trademark skyhook.
“He’s equipped to use it well,” Abdul-Jabbar told Medina of Zubac. “He has the length to begin with. If he can develop his shooting touch and agility, he’ll use it well.”
Zubac didn’t get to use the skyhook a ton with the Lakers last season, but the promising young big man did manage to show off a shockingly versatile array of post moves for a 19-year-old in his first NBA season.
If Zubac can actually master the skyhook, not only would it revive the mostly unused art, it would also basically make him unstoppable with deep post position because of how long he already is.
Abdul-Jabbar returning to the Lakers is still no sure thing, but if the Lakers don’t beg him to come back as their special “skyhook consultant” and turn Zubac into the unguardable offensive force he seems destined to be, then what the heck are we all even doing here, anyway? _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

I'd consider both of those articles to be big news.
KAJ teaching Zu the nuances of the skyhook and working to improve Zu's already impressive offensive arsenal could be huge for Zu's development. _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Last time we had KAJ actively working with guys, good things happened. Zu doesn't have Bynum's ceiling or talent, but I think he'll benefit greatly from being around The Cap.

talent is debatable imo _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe

I could buy that, they both have incredible touch around the basket. But I've yet to see enough of Zu so I'll give the slight edge to Bynum.
Zubac always a great attitude. I think he would respond very well to KAJ's mentoring. It would be nice to see the Lakers bring back low post play, which is a bit of a lot art.

Drew was just way bigger and more athletic but in terms of skillset at the time in their careers (post year 1), it's night and day. Zu is head and shoulders better in that department. Obviously Drew was much younger, but even by 19 I still think Zu is ahead.
Zu has a certain feel for the game and passion for the game that I'm not sure Drew ever really did. Bynum was literally the definition of a raw clay project.
Excited for Ivica to learn and I'm certain he'll be a astute student.
Out of all of Cap's former proteges, Zu seems like the most willing and eager student by far. I think they'd really hit it off. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points."

This would make me very happy. Cap is the most underappreciated superstar athlete maybe ever. Almost no one even considers him as part of the conversation for greatest player ever, and that's a crying shame IMO.

I was always kinda hoping Cap would come back to the Lakers staff to work with Zubac on the Skyhook, and more importantly mentor him on how to elevate every aspect of his game.
Zubac strikes me as the kind of kid who is willing and able to take instruction and learn, and understands what a gift it is having a legend like KAJ there to offer his knowledge and experience. I think Zu has a LOT of potential too.

Hopefully, Buck will allow the Cap to make some Magic with Zub...! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
Imagine how happy Zu is gonna be when he gets this news, dude won't be able to contain that goofy ass smile. Makes me feel good for him, he's talked about Kareem and his skyhook in the past. Plus, he's a huge Lakers fan.
I hope we never trade Zu tbh _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe
They should just hire KAJ as an assistant coach for the big men. Or a "big men consultant" if KAJ doesn't want to sit on the bench. _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings
