I didn't see this one coming. This seems like awfully odd timing. It makes me wonder whether something is coming.

Ireland was speculating (since Stoops bought a mansion in Chicago) either the Bears or Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is in South Bend which 94 miles from Chicago(depending on where in Chicago he bought that mansion)

Bears are still keeping John Fox

And ND is still under contract with Brian Kelly.

I wonder if a scandal is about to break its not his health(could be his wife's?)

Regardless this was a shocker.

A friend of mine who is an OU fan speculates that some other school wanted to pursue Riley, who apparently is well regarded. He thinks that OU asked Stoops about his future plans, and that Stoops was not committed to staying long term. There are rumors that Stoops was thinking about calling it a career. He may have been persuaded that now would be a good time.

His dad literally died coaching. He may not want to end up like that.

Coaches don't quit all of a sudden for no reason. Probably got another job lined up.
