Vegas on the PP. Kings are in trouble. Basically down our 3 best penalty-killing defenseman right now.

Kings with a huge PK. They really need to work on their stick to stick passes.

Kings lose. Caught flatfooted and Quick had no chance. Kings forwards have been a huge disappointment in this series so far.

Gravel was caught out of position on the play, and the lack of depth finally cost us. Once Neal cut to the inside, there were other Kings players there, and they had that covered. Gravel needed to stay to the outside on the play. He didn't, got caught moving towards Neal, and that's why it resulted in what amounted to a semi-breakaway down the right side for Haula.

Tough one to lose, since we were a bounce away from stealing it, but really, they controlled the play. It's going to be very difficult to win 4 of the next 5 against these guys.

That's what I meant by flatfooted. You could see right away in a tight game that a bad mistake would end it. Kings made a lot of mistakes and Quick bailed them out time and again, but that last one was a bad mental mistake. It's going to be tough to win 4 of the next 5 when there's no offense and the Kings are missing 3 of their top 4 Dmen. Kings don't have the depth nor speed to compete in this series missing key players on defense and have no offense being generated. Vegas isn't that much more skilled, but they made a lot fewer mistakes and just kept skating and shooting all night long. It's games like this that magnifies the mistakes that Lombardi made in his trades (not to mention the bad long-term contracts). Kyle Connor would've been perfect if not for that Lucic trade. Colin Miller was lost as well in that trade... not to mention Martin Jones.

The way Vegas rolls 4 lines kind of reminds me of previous Kings teams, although Vegas probably has more team speed overall than those Kings teams. At least Doughty will be back in Game 3, and Jim Fox tweeted tonight that there's a chance that Muzzin could return as well. We're probably going to have to win the next 2 to have a chance. If we can, it might put pressure back on Vegas in a Game 5.

It's also big that Quick is playing so well. It might not be enough, but at least he's on top of his game.

1 goal in 2 games isn't going to cut it.

We need offense, badly.

1-1 in the 3rd, as the last few minutes have been frenetic. Kings need the next goal. Badly.

Unreal. 3-1 Vegas, as they score two goals in 21 seconds. They just keep coming at you. Kings are about to go on the PP with about 5 minutes left, and this is a must-score situation, really.

The Kings go down 3-2. The Kings, the best 3rd Period team in the league, gave up 3 goals in the 3rd.

Damn.

They're done even if they can come back to win the series. They just don't have enough in them. They need a complete reset to get back to being contenders. They've lost too many heart and soul type players and have been depleted by poor trades, few draft picks, and salary cap restrictions.

The shame of it is that Quick has really looked sharp. Kopitar had a Hart-worthy season, and Carter should be back at full strength next season. But there are definitely some holes, as the Kings can't really roll 4 lines out like they used to, at least not with the same desired effect. It's a good team, but not a great one, and they will need a little more from guys like Pearson, Toffoli, Kempe, and Iafallo moving forward. I'm not counting on Dustin Brown doing what he did this year again. As far as defense, Doughty only has 1 more year left on his deal, but if they could get him locked up, they still have a very strong group, with the emergence of Forbort this season, and Voynov's contract comes off the books this season, also.

As you allude to, it's going to be hard to add to this group due to the cap situation, but I do think we can get Doughty locked up, if he wants to stay. He's already making a ton of coin, so the raise wouldn't be gigantic if he stayed around. He's said that the sole factor will be a place where he can win, so there's a danger we could lose him if the Kings take a step back next season. Or maybe even if we don't take a step forward.

Yeah, I don't think this is the same team that can come back from down 0-3. Would like to be wrong wrong but I don't see it. The offense just isn't there.

I have been wary of the makeup of the team for a while, especially when they just don't have the organizational depth to overcome the loss of key players like they have over the years. Guys like Stoll, Mitchell, Williams, and even Richards made contributions that were not shown on the stat sheet. Asking for that type of leadership from the replacements is too much and still to be seen.

The Kings still have a chance to come back in this series, but they need to make certain adjustments on offense. Their stick to stick passing is atrocious and has led to too many giveaways. Generate some scoring chances in the dangerous areas and that might open up their offense. Their forechecking hasn't been as successful as they normally are.

Signing Doughty to an extension is a must this offseason. If he's a free agent next summer, the Kings will end up losing him for less than he's worth. Unfortunately, he's gonna want to get paid big time and it'll be tough to find the money for him. I'm really hoping Vilardi is ready next season because he could be that type of player to kick-start a reload instead of a rebuild.

As much as I enjoyed Dean Lombardi during the early years of the rebuild and cup-winning seasons with his awesome quotes, he really hamstrung the team with some desperation trades, long-term signings, and loyalty to players past their prime. But the one that really really hurts is that Lucic trade. Kyle Connor (the rumored player the Kings were looking to draft), Colin Miller (Developed d-man that won a hardest shot competition in AHL), and Martin Jones for one meh season of Lucic. Worst is boston and san jose immediately improved from that trade. Kings? Not so much.

Amazing how just a handful of poor moves can change the culture of the team so dramatically.

I agree but at that time in moment I also felt the Kings had no chance.

Just couldn't generate offense in this series. And certainly didn't get any lucky bounces, either.
