LeBron Backlash: Why many Laker fans reject the media-driven "King James" narrative August 14, 2018
By Aaron Rodriguez
It is the summer of 2018, and just over a month ago, the glamour franchise of the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers, signed 15-year veteran and 4-time MVP LeBron James to a 4 year, $154 million dollar contract.
The Lakers sign King James! Suffering fans of the purple and gold, far and wide, it is time to rejoice!
Eh, not so fast.
Unlike his turn in Miami, or his return to Cleveland, this final act of James' career has not been met with universal celebration in Los Angeles. Laker fans have a long, storied and decorated history, as well as perhaps the greatest tradition (rivaled only by Boston) in the entire NBA.
This seems like a article written to cause baiting between Kobe fans and LeBron fans, I’m pretty sure there is a lot of Laker fans who loved Kobe but now appreciate LeBron coming here.
Anyone who is not excited about LeBron is foolish...
We identified the young players we felt like we can build around for the next 12 years, we cleared cap to get the best player in the NBA for the next 3 years, and we have cap space to sign another top 10 player next summer who's window is somewhere between LeBron's and the kids'.
Kobe is retied and he's not coming back. We lived and died for 20 years with him. It's time to turn the page. Sooner or later someone is going to come and eclipse all of them. Get used to it is met thinking.

The same people who aren’t excited about LeBron, are the same 1’s who whined when the previous regime couldn’t get guys like Aldridge/Monroe/Carmelo to come.

That is not the intention at all. It exists as a counter position to rectify the posits of the mainstream media, who have mischaracterized the REASONS that some Laker fans are not in favor of seeing LeBron in purple and gold. _________________ "I'm like Neo out this m----- f-----," Bryant said."
The title of the article should be 'Why so many Kobe stans reject the media-driven "King James" narrative' because if you're a LAKERS fan, you support a player of Lebron's caliber coming here. LAKERS FANS are all about getting players who are about helping the franchise win a championship. KOBE STANS are all about protecting Kobe's legacy.

I get it, but I highly doubt a few of these Laker fans who aren’t in favor of LeBron coming here are gonna change what the overall fan base thinks.

Cowherd said it best:
This is exactly the problem. It is not about "Kobe Stans". That is just the go to argument. Try and look a little deeper than that.
And Cowherd has been horrible for some time now. _________________ "I'm like Neo out this m----- f-----," Bryant said."

No doubt it's been time to turn the page for some time now.
This isn't advocating that it's right or wrong, wise or foolish to be happy, sad, excited, or upset about LeBron playing for the Lakers.
It's simply to get the story straight, as the mainstream media has completely gotten the REASONS behind the backlash so wrong, and misrepresents many Laker fans true sentiments. _________________ "I'm like Neo out this m----- f-----," Bryant said."

No, it really is as simple as it sounds. If you're a fan of the team, you support whatever moves the team makes to win a championship. In this case, they signed one of the top 5 players of all time. Nobody is rejecting anything. 99% of the posters here are thrilled with the signing, and Laker fans(not media people) are lining up to buy his jerseys:

The only people that are rejecting the move are Cavs fans and Kobe stans. That's about it.
I respectfully disagree.
And I have spoken with dozens, if not hundreds of fans, many season ticket holders, who also disagree.
There are legions of long time fans who sincerely feel that he doesn't deserve to be wearing the purple and gold for reasons that quite honestly have zero to do with any other player. _________________ "I'm like Neo out this m----- f-----," Bryant said."

Was one of those season ticket holders you spoke to Denzel Washington? Here's what he had to say:
Quote:
I called my accountant. I said, ‘We still got our tickets, right? I didn’t sell the season tickets, did I? Of all years, not this year. Make sure they’re coming!’ Now we all get to be witnesses.
The unknown. The possibilities. What’s the word they use? Witness. Just to see. It’s like, Oh, wow. Now I’m going to be sitting here and he’ll be that close, running by and … dunking! He was one of the first guys … I remember, I was sitting at a game. I’m like, ‘I could see the bottom of his sneakers he’s so high up in the air!’ I could read the bottom of his sneakers.

My apologies to Kobeistheone, but I merged his thread and article into this thread because this site has no intention of re-hashing the "you're not a real fan unless you welcome Lebron" debate. You guys can continue to generally discuss the topic, but the minute people start trolling or calling each other "fake fans," those posters will be suspended.
Focus on Lebron, his legacy and his game, not evaluating each other's fandom. This is the only warning. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service
This is just some random guys blog, and few people read it or comment on his articles, which I understand after skimming this piece.
The writing was fine, But it was a generic anti-Lebron rant, bringing up all the typical points we've heard a million times before (look at his finals record!). This article could have been created by just stitching together posts you could find in any Lebron thread that's been on LG in the past five years. Whether you agree or disagree with him, he's not saying anything new.
Anyway, I'm kind of bored of the "what is Lebron's place in NBA history" threads, and am more interested in just seeing how he meshes with the other Lakers this year.
I'm ready to watch good, competitive basketball and see the youngsters grow as players and mesh as a team.
This Kobe fan welcomes LeBron with open arms.

The only people that are rejecting the move are the 1% Kobe stans. That's about it. The same type of people that deface his murals.
Flat out disagree that we have to support whatever moves the team makes. Some of the worst things that have happened in history are due to people blindly following their government, superior, etc. Same applies here.
Oh and you have 0 evidence that the people defacing his murals were Kobe stans.
