I'm not so sure. Dan Gilbert has not agreed to an extension with any of his GM's in his entire tenure as owner. I could see West simply not wanting to work in such an environment and waiting for a better gig to materialize. |
I would rather work for Jeannie Buss in Los Angeles (or even Steve Balmer ) vs. working for Comic Sans in Cleveland. |
But he doesn't work for Jeanie. He works for a guy three levels below her. And his advancement chances just went poof. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

That's the main reason, he has hit his ceiling with the Lakers. Plus he gets to see how a different franchise works, which would help him when he is the man in charge. The bonus is that he gets out before the Buss idiots destroy the Lakers. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Guys in the league switch jobs regularly.
If he is as great as advertised, Cleveland (with LeBron at least) is a great place to shine. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

West can go there and get Kyrie Irving traded to the Lakers for peanuts. |

The guy that he reports to just busted a cap in his mentor's arse at Jeanie's instruction to improve his own status in the family business.
'Working for Jeanie' might not be a positive at this point.

I listened to his press conference today, he said something along the line of Ballmer being the best owner in town. I hope I am that lucid at 79. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

He also said Clippers have been the best team in town the past 7 years, which is true, but sounded like a slap in the face to the Lakers org. |

If The Logo wants the greatest challenge - the Clippers meets that requirement. Working with an inept GM (Rivers) that has the team far over the CAP with no draft choices this year with a potential SuperMax player that has injury issues with a legacy of not producing at the end of critical games, a gloriously talented defensive center who is not an offensive threat depended on CP3 and a HOF PG who mysteriously makes critical mistakes at odd times that if all three are retained will leave no room to strengthened the bench except keep their inefficient bench since they have no options.
Lakers have a relatively clearer route to success |
