Their GM will get nothing in return if he doesn't trade him before the trade deadline.

I'm sure the Lakers offer will stand. Once the season starts, I think other teams will bow out. He's getting traded before the season starts.

Can you toss the link?

Thanks! Some key comments from Pelinka:

Lonzo: Called him transcedent. Wanted a player where Ball didnt stop moving. They became sold on Lonzo after spending last Friday with his family.

Kuzma: Scouting him past 2 years. Defensive player of the year in his conference. Two way player. Can guard several positions. A luke type of player.

Hart: Mental toughness. Defensive toughness. Can hit the three. Can hit big shots. Disciplined. Expect him to be a leader for the younger guys.

Bryant: Stretch 5. Rim protector. Can run the floor. In excellent shape, could run guard drills.

Was complimentary of dlo but said the deal provided the Lakers 3 things:

1. Lopez: Good offensive player. High basketball IQ. Can stretch the floor as he developed a 3 point shot.
2. Cap space for next year which is part of their plan.
3. Got them additional picks.

Grand plan: Get good players in the draft but will ultimately need 2 big stars to "look in the eye" the top teams, hence the cap space. This offseason will look to add vets but will keep in mind their cap space as they worked hard to create that.

All in all, very insightful for me.

He sounds good, but who's honestly buying Lopez being the #1 reason for this trade? Color me skeptical. I mean he'll help next year, but he's won't be here beyond next year.

I dont get the point in trading for him. He has pretty much made it known he is coming next year and to not trade anything for him.

Its a rebuilding year, continue to let the young guys get minutes and worry about this next FA.

I don't think they were in order of importance. Maybe chronologically.

I also liked how he said the plan was to get 2 max guys next year and they would put all their work and all their energy towards completing that plan.

What does that mean? We're going to tamper like hell? Send moles to befriend Lebron's kids?

The best recruiting tool will be if we win this year.

I think George and Cousins have a plan to join up here.

It's worth closely monitoring that D-Wade scenario in Chicago.

Very possible that we could flip Clarkson, Randle and a 2020 first to Indiana for George, and swap Brewer and Black to Chicago for D-Wade in a money-saving move. Or Wade just gets bought out and we have the cap room to sign him.

Lonzo Ball...[Free Agent]
Dwayne Wade...Josh Hart...David Nwaba
Paul George...Luol Deng
Brandon Ingram...Larry Nance Jr...Kyle Kuzma
Brook Lopez...Ivica Zubac...Thomas Bryant

So our best trade until next summer is:

Clarkson and/or Randle
2019 first
2021 first
Potential 2nd Round

Maybe absorb Monta Ellis

We can't trade the 2019 pick. The first pick we can trade is in 2020. We also have two second round picks we've acquired.

The only way I absorb Ellis contract is if Pacers take Deng. Such an over pay.

2017/18 11.2M
2018/19 11.6M (Playa option)

I think the 2 first rounders is enough

Yeah, if Wade gets bought out, he'll get most of that $24MM, so you'd expect him to then join a contender, not play for us.

The most I'd offer right now for him is JC, Brewer, and a couple of future picks.
