Kyle Kuzma of the Los Angeles Lakers was ruled out of USA Basketball's exhibition game at Australia on Saturday with left ankle soreness.

Kuzma told team officials Saturday morning that the ankle was sore, and it was decided to hold him out for precautionary reasons. Kuzma had 12 points in the Americans' 102-86 win over Australia on Thursday, going 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

It's unclear if Kuzma will be available Monday when the U.S. finishes its pre-World Cup exhibition tour in Sydney against Canada.

Australia beats Team USA 98-94 without Kuzma. Patty Mills caught fire late. First time Australia beat USA mens basketball according to their announcers.

I blame the Celtics.

Pop looks over the hill. Should've played Smart and put him on Patty Mills.

Also his stubbornness when it comes to not starting Mills might've hurt SAS the past 2 seasons.

Played solid in the first game with AUS, didn't see this report until after the game started. Hopefully just a little sore. For a second, I thought they cut him until I saw him on the bench.

Kuzma is out per Marc Stein

USA Basketball announces that Kyle Kuzma's ankle injury will rule him out of the @FIBAWC and the roster is now set

Bummer. I enjoyed watching him play with Team USA. Hope it’s not serious.

Its Athens 2004 all over again....guess its better to get cut before getting associated with a squad that loses in a tournament.

What is the starting lineup for Team USA?

Is Mitchell and Kemba playing together?

Waiting to hear an update but if he'd been spotted on crutches I'd think someone would have reported it so I'm optimistic. By the same token, the World Cup games don't start for a week and they don't think he'll be ready to go by then. With the way they looked last night maybe Pop needs everyone available for practice.

He's got a month before training camp opens but he's already played a significant amount of hoops this summer so it shouldn't take him long to get back in game shape.

Pop didn't want a Laker... and it was obviously a cover.

Kuz was one of the more important players on that team TBH and that's not me being biased. The only guy outside of Kemba, who can get hot and just go off. Without him, they might be 0-2.

Isn't it funny how usa didn't had to cut anybody but apparently every bubble player got injured and withdrew

All of them outside the obvious superstars (example AD) are a cover up with the exception of maybe Fox who legitimately wanted to focus on the playoff run.

Even yesterday there was a tweet about kuz being fine and that it was a precaution.

I hope Kuz single handedly eliminates the Spurs this season. Pop deserves some payback.

So better to be not good enough for a team that doesn’t succeed?

I'd argue the 2004 Athens team was a bigger embarrassment (assuming USA goes on to lose the tournament). That team had like 6 hall of famers, and everyone else was a multiple time all-star. This team isn't nearly as talented.

It seems like Kuzma getting the cut was always gonna be the plan and this new injury that Kuzma has was basically a good excuse to finally make it happen.
