Good point. If the dude won't play D he is a liability. A hot offensive game every three or four games is fools gold.

That’s what irks me the most. He really started to earn his minutes last year by hustlin for the rebounds and getting second chance buckets for us. That allowed him the mi utes to show what else he was capable of on the professional level. This year, he has zero interest in doing ANYTHING outside of scoring and when he does get a rebound I tend to get the lightest cringe because I already know he plans on pushing it himself with a full head of steam and no plans on making a pass.

All the negativity on this thread. Give the guy a break. It’s his second year and he’s only making 1.5 million. Let it play out.

It’s not a matter of negativity, simply stating facts.

Coaching staff broke this kid. Shoulda focused more on improving his 3 over the summer. I don't see the same fluidity he had on offense last year.

Instead of being an elite offensive player with minimal defense, he's now just a mediocre offensive player with mediocre defense, you know, kinda like Luke. Not a good place to be. By being an elite offensive player, he could at least bring something to the table.

He needs to get the 3 ball back. And what about the floaters and hookshots? Dont see much of it anymore. Last year, he also had a bunch of double doubles, points and rebounds.

Dude did 3 a days AND worked on his 3-ball.

So, this is all, incorrect. If anything, he overtrained.

I still think last years shooting was possibly just a good season. Not indicative of how good a shooter or non shooter he actually is. I said quite a few pages back when he was being blasted for poor shooting this year that his body of work sans last year says he’s not that good of a shooter TBH. I definitely don’t think he did t train, everyone knows how hard this kid worked this offseason. I DO believe he’s. Ought into the Hollywood lifestyle and his own hype just a bit though.

Not sure if anyone remembers, but he was lighting it up last year as well and then Luke and the staff asked him to do more than just score and he went into a huge funk and was no longer producing very well. It’s possible that like a few have said that the guy is just a hot/cold scorer who adds little else to your team when the scoring isn’t on, which is a shame because he has the passing ability, and lateral movement to really be a damn good all around player.

Excuses for training to hard? Give me a break

Do the coaching staff not address his selfish ways on the fast break? If I'm his teammate, I'm just staying back on defense. Hart is selfish too on the break but at least he takes it up strong.

Kuzma's defense is pukeworthy. Easily the worst defender i've watched play in a Laker uniform. He is so horrific that it'd be disrespectful to even compare his defense to Boozers during his stint here.

Just watched it...

In Luke's defense you can't send a message to every player at the same time I guess...so he's decided to call out Kuz and Zo...Ok.

When Zo was in the offense was flowing and guys were getting easy looks...plus the hit aheads were on point and the heat were getting nathans on the 3 point line.

Then when the head get back in the game he was having BI run point and that didn't go so good especially when BI settled for fade aways on smaller defenders.

Kuz was making shots...defense looked decent to me...switches were good and he fought over the top of screens chasing smaller players.

KCP and Hart played very well...but I see a double standard growing for BI who doesn't seem to get the immediate hook.

I'm going to trust that Luke is sending a message and that the vets will help the kids navigate the higher standards...but I would feel better if this tough love went for BI as well who should be sat down when he settles for fade aways.

Luke has an unorthodox coaching approach when it comes to man management. The rather short tether welded to Kuzma vs others e.g.
Maybe he's on to something, lets see

Maybe a comma is missing?

"He play, well" as in, "He played, well on second thought..." sort of thing?
JK.

ESPN's Real Plus-Minus came out today.

Kuzma is ranked as the 87th PF out of 91. He has a score of -2.55. He's ahead of three rookies and Jabari Parker.

And, since everybody loves comparing the two, Ingram's score is currently -3.08. Of course, early in the season, the sample size is very small.

Pretty much they both sucked early on
Lebron #1 SF at 5.95.

Well there you have it. Everyone in our team sucks on defense (except for J. Hart and the centers). Even the much lauded BI is not shown in a positive light. D'Angelo Russel is actually higher than LBall? And Lebron is #1 among SF's? Go figure...

Folks, keep it all in perspective. Maybe Kuz isn't all that horrid compared to everyone else in our team.

He’s horrid defensively. His dprm of 2.10 is third worst among PF. Eye test says it’s getting better but he need to stop gambling.

I'm not very impressed on RPM because it's not clear what it is. For example, can anyone provide a simple explanation for it? Does anyone (besides the ESPN eggheads) know what the actual formula is?

Can you see the difference between a RPM of 3.0 vs a RPM of 2.0? Will it show up in a boxscore? Is the highest RPM the best player?

I've already raged on the metric before because people keep using it wrong. RPM is a predictive measure i.e. "how their statistical model projects in the future" and not truly a measurement of how well they are actually performing.
