Tarik was likely gone this summer since he signed the deal with the unguaranteed 2nd year. I will be very, very surprised if he's on the roster opening day. He served a purpose for a couple years though.

He does look much more mobile than Zubac.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'll give you my quick opinion as an IU fan who's watched him almost every game for the last two years. I think he is a great value pick at #42.

At first I thought he regressed a little bit his sophomore year but I think it was more of just showing a different side of him for the NBA and to show that he is a stretch big in his 2nd year.

His freshman year he showed at times that he could dominate inside the paint, like someone said he did against UK in the tourney, they had no answer for him. His sophomore year he did less of that but he showed he can knock down the three.

He's only 19, has a big wingspan, good shooter, runs the floor and his passion shows on the floor big time. He's a very emotional player which is usually a good thing but at times it needs to be dialed back but I can't complain. Overall, I love the pick.

Nice to hear he's still so young!

Pelinka was impressed on his level of conditioning.

Said he "endured" the guard drills.

Agreed. Love this type of upside pick at 42. This kid can play.

actually he runs funny, with one leg pulling he rest of the body. BUT, that motor gets him down the court in a hurry for a guy his size.

He moves a little bit awkwardly so im concerned about him defensively.

Offensively i think he looks a good fit for Lonzo. Runs the floor well and finishes strong, and can hit a 3.

Right now we got 3 centers who wont have issues scoring but have limited mobility defensively. I think Bryant will probably be G leagued most of next season and Black brought back as the mobile/smallball center.

Indiana fans aren't complaining about Myles Turner awkward way to move

Ok but do you see how fast he rim runs? He will run bigmen into the ground from day one. Perfect energy bigman from day 1 imo

Motor
Passion
Rim run
Offensive rebounding

And in top of it you have to respect his jumper

I agree btw Tariq is prolly gone. Especially with randle/nance proving they can play small ball center last season

Lakers now have a ton of bigs:

Center:
Brook Lopez
Ivica Zubac
Tarik Black
Thomas Bryant

Power Forward
Julius Randle
Larry Nance
Luol Deng

I'm guessing someone's going to be the odd one so we can get another PG other than Lonzo?

Black is probably gone.

Luol Dang gonna be a bench warmer unless traded. Kyle Kuzma is here now though.

That would be a mistake given the lack of mobility from Lopez, Zu, and Bryant.

Not really. With small ball being a thing here, We will see a lot of rotational minutes involving Nance and Randle at Center.

Oh, I figured that would be the case when calling dumping Black a mistake.

Possible unicorn? He can apparently shoot, and his Bynum-like length would suggest that he can become a rim protector.

Why wasn't he a lottery pick? What am I missing here?

Young center that has

Elite size and length
Athleticism
Motor
Inside game
Outside game
...

How did he fall to 42? He seems to have all that you would want in a lottery pick.

According to DX, his inside and outside games are still works in progress. He had a "high 18.2 turnover percentage." He also lacks explosiveness. The "Weakness Video" shows that he has a lot of work to really develop his game. At 42, he was an excellent pick.

Lateral quickness hurts his ceiling imo he can't really step out n defend the PnR. If he can work on that and timing around the rim his a starter. If not energy big that can stretch. He's not even 20 yet tho and has two years of college experience. So there's hope

He's fast but not really above the rim type athleticism

One draft review I read indicated he increased his vert by 13 inches in his two years of college. That is a lot, maybe it will increase some more with NBA training.

Here it is:

Lakers added Indiana big man Thomas Bryant, who improved his vertical 13 inches in one year while also adding to his defensive arsenal.

Is it safe to say that Thomas Bryant is the next Michael Clarke Duncan?

This is nice to point to, when people for some reason doubt a player under 20's ability to improve athletically.

Get him in a gym with NBA coaches and get him doing squats n he could be something. His legs are very underdeveloped
