Lakers sign undrafted rookie free agent P.J. Dozier

Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers continued adding talent after the 2017 NBA Draft concluded, signing undrafted free agent, P.J. Dozier.

After picking four players in the NBA 2017 Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers did not stop making moves.

In a night where the Lakers picked Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, and Thomas Bryant, the Lakers added a fifth new player to the team. Per ESPN’s Chris Haynes, undrafted rookie PJ Dozier out of South Carolina signed with the Lakers shortly after the conclusion of the draft Thursday night.

Dozier played two years for the Gamecocks and averaged 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 38 games as a sophomore last season.

A shooting guard that can't shoot the 3 ball. I'm not interested.

Magic would hear all of the expletives when I start finding out that Hartenstein has a bad back and Anigbogu has iffy knees.

It is not always easy to sign Undrafted FA's....they are looking for the place that gives them the best opportunity to make a roster. Since we drafted 2 guards, have to wonder if the reason we were able to sign Dozier so quickly was related to the FO insinuating to his agent that Clarkson may be on the move soon.

If that were the case he would have been a lottery pick. Livingston was an awesome prospect. Even current Livingston is still a 1st rounder.

I had a feeling he was our scouting departments type of guy for a late flier or undrafted FA.....I hope he shows well enough to compete for 15 man roster....or at least a 2 way.
Nice pick glad to see all this new talent!

Deeper insight into PJ Dozier by a poster on another forum

Quote:
PJ Dozier has lottery talent and a great NBA wing body. I love my Gamecocks and I never want to say anything bad about them but the only problem PJ has is upstairs. Remember LO? Remember how he'd have stretches where it looked like he could do anything and then stretches where you forgot he was on the floor? Yeah, that's PJ.

Very athletic, very skilled. Too passive at times.

All of that said, when he turns it on, it's hard to stop him. When he decides he wants to score, he will find a way. If Luke can find a way to keep him turned all the way up, we will have gotten a guy that should have gone no later than 25th in the draft for free.

I'll put it to you this way:

PJ Dozier vs Luke Kennard 1-on-1? Dozier wins 9 out 10 times.

GCMD

Sounds interesting, we'll see if Luke can do that.

everyone is sleeping on Dozier....he only dropped because of questions about his knee....I will not be surprised if he is a quick SL favorite, and makes a strong case for the 15 man roster.

Does anyone know if he was injured or something happened during the season? Boy was shooting 3 PTs at a 40% (8-20) clip in November and 47% (15-32) clip in December. Then just tailed off to 26%, 20%, 17% in Jan, Feb, Mar.

Hoping the Lakers saw something they can fix.

I can get behind this move. Reminds me a bit of a young Iman Shumpert. Does a little of everything.

do not really see it since his primary skill is defense.

Is it?
Mccranjis had some bad defensive numbers on him.

we can see who is correct in about a week. His DBPM is 4.9....that is significantly higher than Lonzo Ball, Fox, Fultz, Smith....the top PG's in the draft...and Josh Hart the other Guard we drafted.
