To be fair, it was projections before we got KCP and potentially rondo.

To be fair they made their predictions knowing that free agency was ongoing. They get no pass only crow with no sauce.

just like free agency, predictions can be "fluid."

Anyway, let's hope they can get to 35+ and stick it to the Celtics.

Now that we've signed KCP. 30 wins is possible. A number we haven't hit since 2013.
This 40 win talk is bonkers. Maybe if we were in the wEAkSTERN conference. But that ish don't fly out west.

I would not be surprised if they win 40, heck we were at a .500 clip before the injuries last season.

So yes, we can surely win 40 games with this improved roster. IMO it will come down to injuries. If we stay healthy we will be good, if we get the damn injury bug, we will be in the low 30 range.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:49 am    Post subject: 35 Win Team.

I see this Lakers team winning about 35 games which would be nearly a 10 game improvement.

I feel like we've added three significant upgrades to our starting five.

KCP is really the first legit starting SG this team has had since Kobe pre-Achilles. He's a stout perimeter defender who is also a capable offensive threat. Watching some of his tape against some of the premiere offensive players in this league such as Kyrie Irving and the Splash Bros. Dude is very technique sound, disciplined, hard nosed, physical, and good defensive instincts.

Brook Lopez is a huge upgrade over Mozgov and certaintly Zubac. He's the most skilled big man this team has had in the last decade after Pau Gasol. A legit go to option down low. Has added a three point shot to his game. Struggles in pick and roll, but does use his size and length effectively in blocking shots. Not only a great low post threat, but should be adept in the pick and pop game with Lonzo Ball and has soft hands.

Then we get to young Mr. Lonzo Ball. This kid is special. You watch him play and his playmaking skills and basketball IQ immediately jumps out to you. Just has an incredible feel for the game of basketball. He genuinely enjoys getting his teammates involved almost to a fault. He's a ball mover. I love that about him because he doesn't need to pound the rock to be effective. Can play off the basketball. You'll see him make a number of touch passes as well as hockey assists. Pick & roll stick a work in progress for him, but he's getting better. Plays the pass lanes well. Good help & team defender. Individual defense needs a lot of work, but he at least puts in the effort. Terrific rebounder. His outlet passes are a thing of beauty.

I watch this kid pass the ball and just how on target some of his passes are in often times tight windows and as a football fan can't help, but think of some of the great quarterbacks in the NFL such as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, etc. and how they routinely would make ridiculously accurate throws in tight coverage often throwing guys open. Lonzo does that as a point guard. Even if there isn't a lot of separation he can thread the needle. Just wait till this kid plays with some legit NBA talent. Gonna be something special.

I feel like adding these three players to the mix as well as a guy like Kuzma who looks like he can have a Larry Nance Jr. type impact just in terms of being a late round pick and being a quality rotation player, but being more of a shooting threat then the latter as well as Brandon Ingram's continued development and we already saw how much Brandon has grown, another year of coaching experience for Luke, getting guys acclimated in his system, and I really do believe this team will be much improved next year. Can't wait for the season to start.

Go Lakers Go!!!

I agree. 35 should be the minimum goal, and it is within reach.

This is a thoughtful post painting a pic of the coming year. I'd temper actual win expectations some with the West being so brutal. Last year was developmental by default, but this year we look forward to:

1. They're focused on developing their two cornerstones and will be VERY fun to watch. Lonzo and Ingram fit what Luke wants to do perfectly, and regardless of 35 or 30 wins they have the power to gain a superstar's attention. Stars want to win now, not wait years for guys to develop, but these aren't your typical youngsters. Creative passing, well rounded skill in a flowing offense can be attractive and neither are a threat to these guys that are worth chasing no matter the egos.

2. They're making decisions on their first batch in the rebuild: Randle and Clarkson. Clarkson had an average deal by this CBA, but doesn't fit their plan of clearing cap room and is movable when it comes to a 2nd star plan. He's likely a solid scoring guard/6th or 7th man but we get to see if he can put the effort towards being a defender and make a case for staying. Randle is the bigger question but it's a good problem to have. He's got the physical skill to be worth the 12M cap hold, and has the potential to be worth a young max deal if they go that route.

KCP and Lopez will be fun to watch, as will the role players carving a niche. I'm so stoked about the year and possibly building the foundation for Showtime with flashes this season no matter the win total.

35 was the number I had in mind before they signed KCP.

They won 26 last year and that was in a Tank Season with a team of matadors.

Just not playing Tank lineups or trading/resting our best players to Tank is going to help.

Not to mention Magic/Pelinka have done a great job so far and are in the process of turning over the entire roster.

It is nice for things to finally be moving in a positive direction and I credit Jennie Buss for making the much needed move.

50-32 Ball is going to take the Lakers to the Promised Land like his father predicted. Nobody expected Ball to have a game like that in the SL so people are going to be in for more surprises. I wouldn't be surprised if he exceeded expectations again during the regular season so I'd better up my ante for now.

I'm a lot more optimistic after seeing Lonzo in destroy mode last night.

One never knows until the season gets going against NBA vets, but last year's team could have won 32-35 games in different circumstances, and this team is likely better.

Brooke Lopez, KCP, and the visibly more athletic Brandon Ingram that showed up for the first Summer League game and buried shots all game - nice start. If Lonzo can get that pinpoint passing transition game going with them, if the fact that we're picking up defenders translates to better defense this coming season, and if Randle and Nance improve, I can see 35 wins, maybe 40 if everything goes right.

Boston isn't getting our pick if it's beyond 10th, right? I think we finish just a hair out of the playoffs but respectably close, and deny the celtics that satisfaction. (edit: beyond 5th)

Griz and Mav are always in it every year. Then there's Pelicans and Nuggets and Blazers but I have to think we have a better team than those teams so if we don't make the playoffs, it's gonna be on the coach.

Timberwolves aren't locked at all. They look really good on paper but they've been "locked" to go to the playoffs for two years. They have a lot to prove
