A solid list. This is an interesting question, because there has to be some kind of cohesion to the collection for it to work. I'm not sure how that group would mesh, though they are all artists who had the skills to do so if they could.
I don't know if I could come up with ONE definitive group, especially since if you were going to do so you'd want to pay attention to genre's. But I'd start with and be very happy with:
Vocalist: Freddie Mercury
Keyboards:Rick Wright
Bass: John Entwhistle
Drums: John Henry Bonham
Rhythm Guitar:Lindsey Buckingham
Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
I think that's a band that could work together and crush it if they did.But there's an alternate at every slot that could fill out the group just as well. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

It's tough to imagine Les Claypool playing in anything other than Primus. Dude is one of the most amazing bassists I've ever heard though, and Primus is one of the coolest and most unique bands out there.

Les Claypool has played with Gov't Mule and was freaking awesome in doing so. I have no doubt he can adapt to different sounds and styles. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Definitely tough to beat that regard. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

This is an 80's Alternative Supergroup, with three guys at each position:
Vocals: Peter Murphy, David Sylvian & Ian McCulloch
Guitar: Johnny Marr, Robert Smith, Vini Reilly
Bass: Peter Hook, Simon Gallup, David J
Drums: Stephen Morris, Stewart Copeland, Clem Burke
Keyboards: Billy Currie, Paul Humphreys, Vince Clarke _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”

Legend has it he actually auditioned for Metallica. But was not deemed an organic fit because he was too skilled.

Outstanding list, though I'm not sure about Janis. I love Janis Joplin, but her vocal strength would constrain the other artists. Janis is best served by having a raw band behind her, playing to her vocals, rather than drowning it or forcing her out of what she did best. She was simply the most powerful vocalist since Bessie Smith.
Her best work was with a terrible band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. She later work with Kozmic Blues and Full Tilt Boogie; both were better than Big Brother (hell, you can probably find garage rock bands better than Big Brother), but that raw energy was sublimated by the better, more refined instrumental work.

One of my must go to events back in the day. Saw them a few times at the Forum over that period. "Signals" definitely signaled a shift down a path that was not going as interesting.
On another note. Just to emphasize how great Peart's abilities as a technical drummer are. An old boss of mine used to tour with a couple of bands in the late 70's early 80's working the soundboard, He knew one of Peart's drum-techs who said that when they'd change out his drumheads, the wear pattern was very specific and no bigger than the size of a quarter. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
