Lopez is underrated here.

He is our best center since prime Pau, our best player at this moment and someone everybody on Nets forums had just good things to talk about after the trade.

A stretch 5 that can also play down low and protect the rim is a great asset, his only glaring down side is his poor rebound numbers.

If he plays well and is willing to take a one year pay cut I'd like to keep him going forward, but not as one of the two max players.

His downside on defense is that he cannot guard space, and is pretty slow footed. But i found him to be a smart defender who doesn't make too many mistakes. Knows his limits.

Lopez says a lot of guys make 3's in practice but don't end up making them in real games. Sounds like the star player we need.

Jokic shoots 32.4% on 1.9 3-pt shots per game yet he makes Denver's offense one of the most efficient in the league when he's on the floor. It got me to thinking that as the league continues to get smaller the big man value proposition is shifting back a bit when you have a guy that can do a couple particular things well.

You have to be able to make good, quick reads and make defenses pay for agressive doubling in the post. Sometimes the double is on the move before the entry pass so the big almost has to make the read before the ball arrives. You also need a guy that can catch a pass on the move and hold his position (or a seal) pretty well. That keep the spacing right for the eventual playmaking opportunity. Lastly, they have to be a legit post scoring threat. Otherwise defenses will just play them straight up.

I think Lopez is good in the latter two aspects (catch on the move/seal and legit post threat). Where he needs some work is making quick reads and precise passes. He's been over 2 apg in the last couple seasons which shows he can make a play, but it's far from a strength at this point.

I'm hoping playing in our Zofense will inspire Lopez to become a great passer.

Brook Lopez vs Hassan Whiteside: Defensive percentile

Lopez being better than Whiteside on PnR defense should be reason for happy optimism and a welcome surprise.

I am truly surprised we don't talk about him more.

A starting line-up with Lopez-Lebron-Ingram-George-Ball would seriously rival the Warriors. It's very doable provided Lopez takes a one-year paycut.

This is kind of what I've been talking about the most recently on the 2017 FA thread. I can see Brook wanting to stay as a Laker (and the feelings being mutual). Lakers institutionally like having a big starting center, so if he's around a 9-11m/year player, that's a great deal for both sides.

Thanks MJST

Do you know where we can make this comparisons?

I'm curious about other players.

He's got to not only like Luke's system, BLO's got to thrive in it. Being successful as a stretch 5 will extend his career. Veteran NBA players must understand as well as anyone GSW's success isn't going to be a flash in a pan type of thing. The next best thing to competing for a ship is to be relevant. Lopez gets to be relevant here - especially when we sniff about 40 wins this season. I maybe looking at this with my purple n gold goggles, but anchoring a winning Lakers team will catapult BLO into the limelight.

Brook Lopez offensively is what we wanted and expected from Dwight Howard, like I said if this wasn't for a motivation to create cap room, this move would up there with the Pau Gasol acquisition in terms of Impact....

Don't think anyone expected Howard to have all that in his game.

I'm appointing to Howard having a post game.

He's more like a $22 million player.

Lopez and Kuzma is a great return for dumping a terrible contract and removing a player who was very talented but didn't fit and was immature in ways that my not be immediately fixable.

Russell may be okay in NJ as he will be center of attention on offense which fits him best.

Not in the 2018 cap market. Less teams with cap space and especially less on a 30 year old center. FMV is probably 13-14m but I can see him taking a 1 year smaller deal and then we can sign him over the cap in 2019.

dwight. maybe i'm exaggerating a little, but he had a limited offensive repertoire (wouldn't even work with kareem) compared to pau at the time or brook lopez now. it was a well known weakness of his game is what db was saying.

I can easily see him being a 20m player based on last season. Let's see how he plays this season obviously but as it stands today it's more than 14m

Doubtful. Look at the cap space for teams next year. Plus the center position is not one where teams will spend 20m a year anymore except Boogie. He's also turning 30.

We expected Howard to defend. That's it.

Not a post game. He has none.
Not and offensive game. He has none.

We expected him to be our defender and trash man.
