If anyone has some insight, feel free to answer. If you have a source, feel free to link it.
My question is:
In the NBA, are teams required to spend a certain amount of money each season or are they allowed to NOT spend on players?
For Example: The Lakers have about 41 million dollars in salaries in 2018, if they were to NOT add anyone, would the NBA's CBA allow them to NOT spend or would they be required to?
* I was under the Impression that NBA teams were required to spend a certain about of money on players per season at the minimum.
Thanks for your time, looking forward to your responses.
Yes there is a minimum. I believe teams are required to spend 90% of the cap. So last year it was roughly $94 mill so teams have to spend at least $85 mill on players.
Not sure what the penalty is if they don't spend it.

The penalty is just that the amount they are under the cap floor is distributed to the players on their roster. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Yeah, they just cut a check for the shortfall. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
