Cleveland should hire former Cavalier great Danny Ferry to fill their vacant GM position.

I'm sure he'd love to take Deng off our hands.

Same with Mosgov. Together they were terrible contracts.

But if Deng can be a decent second string player, might as well try to get vaue out of him. If can somehow play him for two more years and stretch him the last year.

If he can play 15 min a game and get 7 pts, 3 rbs, and play decent defense that will lessen the pain of his contract.

But it seems foolish to give up a young asset to get rid of a bad contract. Stretching him after one more would be the best solution.
Next year will be another year of rebuilding. Why waste valuable assets?
Randle and Clarkson must go anyway, so at least try to unload Deng.
This is completely false....

We can sign 2 max players and keep Randle and Clarkson.

The key is unloading Deng without bringing any salary back.
We need David Copperfield as our GM.
Without Deng, we will have $47m in salary next including all cap-holds.

We could find a way to make it work to bring in say PG13 + Cousins and keep Clarkson and Randle.

Without Clarkson, we can easily sign 2 max players and keep Randle. Without Randle, we can easily sign 2 max players and keep Clarkson.

They key will be unloading Deng, which we will be able to do.
You forgot to.mention clearing Clarkson, and Randle will also do it since Deng is not moveable right now.
Deng will be easily moveable next summer with 1 or 2 1st round pick attached to him.

Would much rather keep Randle and trade a 1st round pick with Deng then lose Randle.
Most would, but unfortunately Randle wants money too thus why he might have to go too because we need about $60-$65 mil freed for two max players.
If Randle stats remains relatively the same, would you pay him the Max, if not - what would be his value.

Would Ball help make Randle more effective.

IF they get Hill as a SG, would this help Randle

Ball, Hill, Deng, Lopez and Ingram - not a bad lineup.

HOWEVER, in the Big Bad Western Conference - which is totally loaded - they would be having trouble to get into the playoffs since 11 of the top 12 Top NBA players are in the Western Conference.

He needs a defined role from the get go. Last year he was a starter to begin the year and then he came off the bench. He never came off the bench in his career. That is a tough transition.

I don't even think Deng had a bad year. lakers fans just complained about anyone that wasn't under 20 years old that was taking away playing time from them lol.

Deng could have dropped 20 a game and fans woulda complained about him. Ie... Lou Williams

Deng didn't average 20 ppg a game, though. He averaged 7.6 ppg while shooting 39%. Really, there isn't any way to spin he had anything but a bad year.

Doubt it. He thinks he's too African. Or whatever it was that he said. Think he got fired for that too.

Hey, this is America. Everyone deserves a second chance. Deng to CLE it is!

CLE hires Ferry.
Ferry trades for Deng to prove he isn't racist.
Everyone wins!

To be fair to ferry, I believe he was just reading out loud what someone said about deng.

I think our best hope is to trade him for a less crappy contract ( assuming we are not able to gain much leverage with either JC and / or JR ), with the compensation being a moderately protected 2020 1st round pick + max cash considerations (is that still $5 M?) going out to smooth the way.

And without further ado, the Lakers trading partner for Deng all-stars:

1. Alec Burks, Utah Jazz, come on down. 2 years left for a total of $22 M. Last season averaged a putrid 6/3/1 on 40% shooting in 15 min of action. Sounds a lot like Deng. So, we would be asking a rebuilding Utah, remember they lost Hayward - so they are gonna suck, to eat one extra year and around $30 M extra dollars. Now if the trade happens closer to the deadline this year it would be less costly for them. The 1st rounder is say Top 1 protected?, ( remember, if we hit in 2018 free agency this pick is going to be low 20s )

2. Solomon Hill, NO Pelicans. 3 years left at $38 M. 7/4/2 38% in 30 min. Why would we take back a 3 yr commitment you ask? B/c we stretch $24 across 5 years ($5 per) instead of $38 ($7.5 per). (Lottery protected 1st rounder?)

I think we will end up having to take back some salary to dump Dung, but it could still be a big help.

We should offer:

Deng
JC
Denver's 2018 2nd rounder
Our lottery protected pick in 2020

for

Dwade's expiring.

Removes JC's contract along with Deng's, so we'd have max money. Possibly trade Julius if we know that we can get 2 max FA's (or even re-sign him and go well over the cap.. I don't think he's going to be worth what he's going to look for though).

Bulls are rebuilding, they have no use for a 36 (in January) year old Wade and will not be competing any time soon.

I'd even throw in Chicago's 2019 2nd rounder in there if we are desperate enough.

If I try to make myself the Bulls GM, I don't do that deal. The Bulls are groping for identity and doing a rebuild, true, but Wade will help the club draw local interest during this transition. Think Kobe's usage in that final contract, poisonous as it proved to be for the Lakers' own rebuild, but that is how GM's think.

I think that swapping Wade for this batch of Laker spare parts doesn't help them very much. They own LaVine already, a duplication of what JC bring once healthy and similar contract burdens ahead. The Deng contract is the heavy burden here; the Bulls shouldn't take it on.

FYI: Deng related -

NBA star Luol Deng wants to inspire South Sudanese people to make the most of their opportunities.

Quote:
each year when the South Sudanese Australian National Basketball Association runs its annual classic tournament, Deng wants to be involved.

This year Deng was courtside for the national tournament, hosted at Werribee's Eagle Stadium, and he held a clinic and under-18 all-star game on Monday.

Lakers News: Luol Deng To Captain Team Africa In NBA Africa Game
By Daniel Starkand - 07/14/2017

http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-luol-deng-to-captain-team-africa-in-nba-africa-game/2017/07/14/

On Aug. 5 in Johannesburg, South Africa, NBA players are set to compete in the NBA Africa Game, which will feature some of the best players on the planet playing for Team World, taking on players born in Africa and second-generation African players.

Los Angeles Lakers veteran forward Luol Deng was born in Wau, Sudan, now known as South Sudan, before moving to Brixton, South London.

Deng is one of the most successful African born players in the NBA, and it appears he will be one of the captains of the African team in the upcoming game, via NBC Sports:

All Deng needs to do next year to contribute is shoot well from 3-pt range and play tough D. We don't need that many points from him. If he does just those two things he can be OK for the time being. His contract will still suck but at least he'll give this team some of that veteran leadership it desperately needs.

I think Deng's official status is WFR- Waiting for Release
But he might also just be CTC- Cashing the Checks
His status with me is WTL- Worthless to Lakers

BTW, I still think he's a nice guy too.
