In 1919 the Red Sox sold the rights to Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $996,000.

Nearly 100 years later, the Contract documenting the sale sold for $2,303,320!

That was interesting to me...

Pretty insane to think what his career totals might've been if he were an everyday hitter from the start of his career.

Absolutely true and to think during those first years he had 23-12 with an ERA of 1.75 in 41 GS and 24-13 with an ERA of 2.01 in 38 GS for a couple of years. During 4 seasons in his 2-5 years when he did most of his pitching his ERA remained below 2.50 every year. Just an amazing one of a kind player.

Oh and everybody focuses on his unbelievable slugging back in that era when he had 11 seasons of 40+ home runs and to maintain a perspective in the history of baseball no other player has had more than 8 seasons of 40+ home runs. And Ruth did this during an era when most other players were doing well to hit just half as many homers per year as Ruth did back then.

And with all that in mind the guy retired with a career .342 batting average!! (which I often surprise people with)
