The Final takes place at the New Meadowlands Stadium, home of the NY Giants and Jets. |

Lopetegui out as Head Coach of the Spanish national team after taking the RM job. Good on the Spanish federation. |
Good to fire a coach days before a major tournament starts? If they thought he'd treat non-Madrid players unfavorably, why did they replace him with one of the greatest Madridistas ever, Hierro? According to reports, the three captains, two other players, and Hierro voted for Lopetegui to stay. But they were overruled by the new president of the federation, who was quoted as saying that he was mad Lopetegui didn't vote for him in the elections to the position. This was handled terribly. I will concede that Madrid should have waited to announce the decision after the WC. BUT, there is precedent in Spain of national team coaches accepting club jobs before major tournaments (it happened twice before) and they weren't fired. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

I suspect that GK was attempting irony. |

Nope. Not being ironic at all. (*points to avatar*)

Not sure why. We'll have a newer venue and a well established international football following here. |

Bigger TV market. Plus it hosted the Copa America Centenario back in 2016, so it does have experience with these types of events. |

That's what it said in the bid package.
I was listening to some of the pundits on Sirius talking about host cities. It made me roll my eyes. They were acting like the selection of the host cities has something to do with logic and geographical dispersal across the country. According to the pundits, if Atlanta gets games, that rules out Nashville, because the cities are too close to each other. Ditto for Dallas and Houston.
Give me a break. This is freaking FIFA. The candidate cities who make the best bids will win. FIFA doesn't care if two of the host cities are a couple hundred miles apart. In Europe, that's a long way. |

Thats why they chose USA, Canada and Mexico...it was the fairly obvious choice, since they don't have to worry about any stadiums being built. The logistics and security are not something out of the ordinary they would have to deal with. |

I'm sick of his drama but he's under contract and there's a 1 billion euro release clause. Madrid has all the leverage. Sure, if someone wants to pay 200 million or so for a soon to be 34 year old, go ahead.
He probably wants his contract to be revised. He and Messi do it basically every year. |
Eh. If he wants out, it's just a question of how much of a fee RM can extract as part of the deal. I don't know that anyone, even PSG, would cough up 175M euros. I don't blame Perez for demanding that much, but it's basically the opening position in a negotiation.
But that begs the question: Who really wants him at this point? Just about anyone would want him if the price was right, but the price is not going to be right. There would be a sizable transfer fee, probably 100M euros or so, plus Ronaldo's salary. |
100M Euros turned out to be pretty close. I haven't seen confirmation on an exact number yet. |

CHELSEA: Conte was sacked today. Maurizio Sarri (Napoli) expected to take the job.
Now if you know you have (at best) a 3-year run as Chelsea manager, you have to ask for some serious scratch, right? _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. PSG has to do something though. They're afoul of FFF rules and their president is still under investigation for bribery. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. Don't think he'd make them any better, he's no better than Morata at this point, misses big chances, just not what they need IMO. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

Real should be intervening there, offer them Benzema as part of a package for Hazard/Courtois. Then they go bag Icardi and they're in an excellent position with an even more well-rounded attack than they had last season.
Would still mess Chelsea up as well which would be good for me. _________________ "I got Wheaties!" |
