He'll never seriously be in the goat category.

Reasonable expectations from him are that he is a role player on a championship caliber team. His role is to play high level defense, make open shots, and move off the ball.

I would like to see him develop more playmaking skills as a threat to score. He sometimes gets to a scoring position but then passes it off. Almost like he isn't aware of the position, or he doesn't know what to do with it. This might be inexperience or unfamiliarity. Hopefully he improves there.

His defense is still very solid, and its hard to expect improvement there. Him shooting 35% from three with that kind of defense means he should be getting PT in this league.

Right now, asking him to playmake exposes a flaw. He looks more like a traditional shooting guard out there than a point guard.

Dellavadova/McConnell should be the expectation,

Patty Mills should be the ceiling.

Caruso has more talent in his pinky toe than Dellavadova . You cant be serious with these takes.

Back to back good games. Alex got a lot of heat for his poor play. But Vogel did something very interesting. He is bringing in Alex early for Dennis, and allowing Alex to play off Bron to start a game. Then he brings Dennis in, for Alex. Then Alex comes back again with Bron.

Alex is like Bron's Derek Fisher (In a different style of play). You need him to be paired with a superstar, to get the effectiveness. He is not a guy that leads your 2nd unit.

We asked him to point guard without DS and he wasn’t that good at it, neither was THT

Honestly, i'm glad they tried it as I was high on Caruso's improved passing to start the season but he's clearly just not a point or top option kind of player. He absolutely excels when he isn't asked to score or be a main facilitator and can just feel the game and play off a superstar or two. It was nice to see him have two solid games again and not have a bunch of bad decisions mixed in there on both ends which is def. not something we're used to seeing with him.

I think THT has the potential at least he's just way too raw still but that's to be expected at his age. It's great to see him getting all this experience.

Alex seems to always be bothered by nagging injuries, which is not a good sign in this league. We need to see more productivity & consistency from AC.

He’s a defensive guard and as consistent as they come. He plays physical and gets some numbs and bruises, but has t missed extended stretches. Offensively he is what he is, it’s his defense that makes him a great fit for this team. That often goes overlooked.

"Alex Caruso will get a $9.5 million offer from Lakers": Brian Windhorst speculates where the future of the defensive specialist lies

Alex Caruso could receive a major hike in salary with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of this upcoming NBA Free Agency window.

At this point, Alex Caruso has become one of the biggest fan favorites for the Los Angeles Lakers. The 27-year-old may not be a starter, but he has proven to be an integral rotation piece on a championship-winning team.

His mix of very good defense, and reliable offense on even the highest level, make him one of the more underrated players in the league today. At this moment, the Lakers have access to his services for a mere $2.7 Million a year.

However, according to ESPN analyst and NBA insider, Brian Windhorst, this could change very soon. With that being said, let’s get into it.

Alex Caruso could be up for a contract worth $9.5 million with the Lakers in the upcoming weeks
Speaking on the topic, Windhorst had this to say about Alex Caruso and the Lakers’ situation:

“The 2021 free-agent market has been stripped of many of the biggest names, as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, Rudy Gobert, and James elected to sign extensions to stay with their current teams. But there still could be 10 teams with $20 million or more in cap space and another handful with more than $10 million.”

“That means the Lakers could have competition to keep their role players. As an athletic guard who can defend, unrestricted free agent Caruso will have suitors. League executives think he could draw interest at the full midlevel exception range, which is $9.5 million next season. (Caruso currently earns $2.7 million a year.

As Brian Windhorst said, due to the lack of many big-name free agents this time around, many teams could go after Alex Caruso. Given his skill set, and what he has proven at the highest level, his name will most definitely be an attractive one.

Still, insiders believe the Lakers do in fact want to keep the 27-year-old. Perhaps both parties may even reach a compromise on how much needs to be paid. But, as with many things, only time will tell what happens next in this situation.

"insiders believe the Lakers do in fact want to keep him".. That's some info only a true insider could share.

I get it since there's not much to talk about for the next week but it's completely pointless at this point in time to put any real concrete kind of numbers for his next contract. At the beginning of the season I seen fans and articles talking about how he was going to get more then Kuz due to his insane shooting on top of everything else. Now that he dropped back down to earth it's down to MLE range which is his ceiling imo (Kind of like THT getting that 3rd year max offer that has pretty much disappeared as well). He's a really good role player but will never be anything more than that so unless another contending team really wants him at that price he might not even get quite that high.

Regardless, he's a huge part of our team and will be getting a big pay raise but he is already 27 so I don't see any younger teams throwing big money at him but I guess there's always a chance with some of the insane contracts we see every off season that continue to shock me.

Just like Fisher was never really able to be a PG either. He was mainly a guy that could bring the ball up and make an initiation offense pass. Send guys in the right direction. Caruso, that is what he could be, for Bron, and has been that proven intangibles player that brings defense and big momentum changing plays. It really is not more than that, nor is he paid to do more.

I like Caruso, but not for $9.5 million a year. $4-5 million, based on current skill set, which includes his lack of shooting, intangibles are great, but I need to see better shooting numbers, better free throw percentage, and an improvement on last year's 6.5 ppg averages to pony up that much more money from his current $3 million plus deal.

I don't think he's worth the mle myself. But it only takes one team to think otherwise and that's his price

You could build a whole team around him, play him 36 MPG for multiple seasons to develop him, and I still don't think he'd put up those type of numbers.
