We gave him the deal to thank Klutch, plain and simple. |
I find it increasingly hard to believe LeBron wasn't going to come here if we didn't sign KCP. His agent gets, what 10% of that 12 million? What's LeBron's share in that 1.2 million? He stays in Cleveland if we don't bring him back??
This was Rich Paul capitalizing on a gleeful Maginka that thought their off-season work was done when they got LeBron. It's a really bad look for our FO that will only get worse. There are so many glaring holes on our roster and clearly better players on whom that money could've been spent. |
You're missing the bigger picture. Obviously Bron's decision didn't hinder on us re-signing KCP but it's about maintaining a relationship with a big time client who... just signed Anthony Davis. If we didn't re-sign KCP, he's playing for the MLE somewhere, there was no money out there for him. The thinking was, we do Rich a favor for one more season, showcase KCP on a team with what...39 national TV games? over KCP signing the MLE on some team that has no exposure at all. It's about maintaining relationships and who knows better about maintaining relationships with agents than Rob Pelinka? You guys just look at the surface when it's much deeper than it is. Agents have a major influence and if re-signing KCP gives us a better chance at signing AD, you do it. Just like how signing KCP last year allowed us to talk to Rich Paul about LeBron without the NBA being on our ass. |
Yeah, we did that last year, which made sense when we weren't a playoff team. We're trying to a win a title now. You need to use every dollar as efficiently as possible to beat out teams like GSW and Boston, who have more talent. Spending 12 million to make an agent happy when you have glaring holes on your roster because it might arbitrarily increase your odds of getting a guy who will be a free agent in 2 years is insanely bad cap management. Rich Paul is not going to prevent us from trading for Anthony Davis as much as lacking the assets to get him in the first place(like say, having Julius Randle on your roster). And assuming AD reaches free agency, is Rich Paul going to screw over Lebron, the guy who made his career possible, by directing AD away from the Lakers?? |
Price of doing business. I would have rather had Redick or Evans |

Don't you think it's possible that our FO thought KCP had a good season and they wanted to overpay to keep him on a one year deal.
I doubt it was Paul pulling one on a "gleeful Maginka"
That said, it was a terrible use of money. Whether it was Julius or another, we could have done a lot better and that's especially obvious watching Hart who is clearly starting material. |

I get that he was signed to an inflated one year contract in order to get Lebron, but now that Lebron is here why is this clown still playing? So sick of those bricks he throws up while in transition. |

Part of the deal... and for his next deal elsewhere.
Some deals just suck, especially this one. |

We need to put out a missing persons report for KCP cause this guy seems lost out there with no defense and cant buy a shot to save his life right now. |

I am so sick of this explanation. Lebron wasn't going to come here if we didn't waste 12 million dollars on KCP?? He'd rather get whatever kickback he gets on the 10% agent's fee Rich Paul gets on that 12 million than, say, a much better player??
We're to believe Lebron turned down 10s of millions in guaranteed money leaving Cleveland, but losing out on his share of that 1.2 million that Klutch collects on the KCP contract would've killed his coming to LA? Was he gonna sell his new house? Enroll his kids in new schools?
If that's really the case, I hope Lebron gets sick of him really soon. I thought Lance would be my least favorite Laker ever, but it's KCP by a mile so far. At least Lance is just a little overpaid. |

I wish. This isn’t Detroit though. You can’t get a DUI for letting a drunk person drive your car. Hmm. Or can you? |

off....the..... bench...... he needs to be behind hart in the depth chart unless he can get it together, I personally saw no point in resigning him other than a favor to klutch, hart was already better than him last year. _________________ 11/9/12 the day the brown was flushed down!!!!!!

If this continues, hopefully Magic gets the nod from Paul to move KCP. It would be the best for all parties. |

Bench him. Can't hit shots, and defense can be good but only when he makes an effort which depends on his headspace game to game. The 20ish mins we saw is the most he should play. |

I don't understand the theory at all. LeBron came here because he wanted to come here, he had no reason to care about how much money his agent or KCP would make.
I thought he was a one year rental last year who earned another year by shooting insanely well for much of last season. I don't think there was any non basketball rationale behind the contract. |

Why the hell did he lose weight in the offseason? He was already skinny before. He seems like he has no energy out there, I hardly ever even know when he's on the court. |
