PG-13 is better....but I think the upgrade would be much less than what some people will expect. This years PG-13 compared to KCP is probably worth 3-5 more wins at most.

I think PG is going to step it up in the playoffs. He's known to coast a bit during the regular season. But look at his playoff stats the past 2-3 years. Monstrous.

Man we talk all about wanting this player and that and hating on some of our own players but I sometimes totally forget that these are real people with families who want to make a home here.

Yeah. It's toughest IMO on families who have to uproot themselves to follow the $. But bear in mind, KCP got a friendly $18m deal too that he wouldn't otherwise get. So he's being well taken care of.

I am human....I wish him well like I do everyone that has not harmed me....but I am not losing sleep over a dude having to move from one mansion to another....or his kids. I grew up fairly poor in a fairly impoverished area of the country....me and my friends would have traded our left nut if our dad was making millions a year playing basketball even if we had to move every couple years.

I know. I want him to come but I can also see the "allure" of playing with WB too. If we don't have a corresponding star for him to join LA, well, we saw that DRoz wasn't up to that task either.

DeRozan was different in the sense it was always 100% speculation....he appears to never had an ounce of interest in leaving Toronto. At least we know that PG-13 is not that connected to OKC, and at one time was interested in playing in LA. PG will at least take meetings, where DeRozan did not want to listen to anyone else's pitch.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope believes this was his best season

Quote:
Caldwell-Pope had a solid season with the Lakers. He had to deal with some off-court issues, as he was suspended the first two games of the season and then had to serve jail time in which he couldn’t leave the state of California.

Despite those challenges, Caldwell-Pope is very happy how things went this season in Los Angeles. So happy, he even went as far as to call it the best season of his career thus far.

He finished the season strong, I still want Pg13’s defense, KCP defense was overrated and quite frankly average at best. If we are going to contend in the future, we need some elite perimeter defense and a 20ppg scorer

Can't resign everyone. KCP will probably be backup plan in case we don't get PG13.

I love PG and think he would be a PERFECT fit. That being said, an argument can easily be made for forgoing PG and resigning KCP. As stated, KCP really played good once his legal troubles were over. KCP is almost 3 years younger than PG and would cost over 10 million less than PG. As much as I love PG, I wouldn't be upset with resigning KCP to a team friendly contract (South of what he makes now).

No one is talking of keeping Pope because everyone is foaming at the mouth for James, George, and Randle.

Me thinks if James and George are inked, the better fit next to those guys (James and George) is Pope over Randle.

Two caveats though: The Lakers sign another center on the cheap who is as good as Randle defensively (a guy who can switch and guard anyone on the floor), and the Lakers resign Pope at a number under nine million per.

Flame away.

Imagine the meeting with KCP/Rich Paul wherein they discuss how Paul told KCP not to accept that reported 5 years/80m from Detroit, and now he's taking 8-9m. (which is a # where he can sign for the full MLE on other above cap teams).

We already helped him save face though.

It just all depends on the market. I think he’s an MLE player this summer.

What team with space will pay him north of ten million per?

(tumbleweeds)

I'm saying any team above-cap team can just offer him the full MLE. So the # of suitors expand significantly. Is he going to be able to recoup his value or increase it on the Lakers if he's maybe a 6th man, or a 4th option on a LBJ/PG13 team?

Especially if he is open to 8m/year. That would be a coup for them.

He’d be a starting as the third option (with that unit), he’d be playing for a ring with LeBron James, and he’s been here for a year already.

I don’t say we’d have the upper hand if everyone else was offering the same amount of money.

B/c I don't want to lose Jules.

How well will Randle play with James off the ball?

They are quite similar in that they both want and feel they deserve to have the ball. They both feel like they can beat anyone off the dribble.

I’m pretty sure Randle won’t look like Randle on a team with James.

Randle is a better player. Pope is a better fit, so is Noel.

If Noel plays defense as good as Randle, what exactly are you losing?

Randle played off the ball a ton with Lonzo, BI, and KCP.

How'd Noel do on the Mavs? Or the 76ers b/f he was traded?

Why can't we just have Noel as a minimum pickup with Jules?

Jules can do what Tristan did (rebound/switch on guards) while having actual abilities to dribble the ball. He's more valuable than you think he is.

You’re making my point.

Pope and Ball? Those two on-ball savants? Please.

Now take those two out and replace them with George and LeBron friggin’ James.

Throw in the fact that Randle can’t shoot and it’s clear to me that Randle will be negatively effected. Randle wants and needs the ball to really play “his” game.

If Noel is available for the room exception and he’s healthy, Pope is the more savvy signing over Randle.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but Randle reminds me of Clarkson in that he will put up numbers when he is given freedom to make plays for himself and others. Like Dlarkson, he’s a wheeler and dealer.

I knew Clarkson would look dramatically different after his rookie year when other talented players who need the ball were brought in and I knew he’d struggle playing with James.

Randle is a much better player then Clarkson, but the spirit is the same. They’re primarily drivers who need to catch the ball, survey, and penetrate. This type of players have always struggled playing with James unless they were designate as the second bananas (ie. Irving and Wade).

I have my doubts about George and Ingram with James as well, and the feeling is Randle will get almost completely lost in the sauce as a fourth, fifth, or even sixth option.
