He won several games for them last year with his surprisingly consistent lights out shooting. He will probably get another chance once Lance regresses to the mean.

So long as between he and Lance they're not eating mins from Hart and Kuz, dont' really care how he gets his mins. Agreed though that Lance will eventually regress, and those are good mins for KCP to take.

They are both streaky so I think minutes will go back and forth between them. Lance will be more valuable comes playoff time though. KCP will be be dealt for a backup big.

It would be a trade of his choice

Yup. But if he's completley out of the rotation, he may want to be somewhere he can sneak back into the rotation.

KCP isn't choosing where he wants to go. Lakers will field offers and go to him and say "hey you want us to trade you to ____ and you get an opportunity or you stay here riding the bench rest of the season?"

It worked last year when I asked to change the Thread to Lu”Old” Deng. Can we change this thread to “KFC”?

It’s basically his contract year so he’s most likely gonna get traded if he’s not in rotation. Wait for injuries to teams that trying to get to playoff or contenders. It’s not Deng situation where he has years left on his contract.

Klutch client. He'll go wherever Lebron sends him and thank him for the $12 million contract he got.

I've avoided bashing this deal because I've tried to rationalize it as a package deal for Lebron. Signing KCP was a favor to LBJ for choosing us. However KCP has been totally invisible so far and we basically flushed 12 million dollars down the drain this summer. Can't believe he turned down $80 million

As bad as he is, he NEEDS to be the one shooting our late game FTs. Shooting almost 90% from the line this year.

Better game but I wanted to choke him after losing the ball twice after rebounds that led to dunks

We need to trade him and maybe Zu for a decent backup big.
Both expiring contracts.
Maybe to Chi for RoLo ?!

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also has a de facto no-trade clause because he signed a one-year deal with Early Bird rights after completion. The NTC, along with the Trade Bonus, could make a trade of KCP tricky for the Lakers.

That sucks. When he plays, his defense has been really bad. Hope things change.

KCP was the signing bonus we couldn’t pay Lebron. I feel better if I think Lebron is making $48M and KCP is making $0 (or somewhere in between).

It’s funny/a little sad that if he let the game come to him (even as poorly as he playing) he could contribute now. He still shooting 50% from the corner but only shoots from there about 1/5 of the time. Considering he’s shooting 22% overall from 3 suggests inverting his corner attempts with his non corner attempts to help spread the floor.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/caldwke01.html

He isn’t quite salary ballast due to his relationship with Lebron but his veto rights exist due to salary bird rights and we aren’t going to exercise those rights so vetoing a trade won’t really help him next year.

I think he did cough up 2-3 turnovers within 2 seconds of our steals that was infuriating in the Dallas game.
