This. When KCP made that clutch layup, I looked over to my shoulder and saw my DFISH vs Celtics layup poster and smiled.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope steps up to support Lakers' superstars in Game 4
Role player's late shots supplement massive games from LeBron James, Anthony Davis

KCP is a very good role player. He simply isn't a superstar and we need to stop complaining about what he isn't. He is probably the teams most dependable 3pt shooter, plays solid defensive and has shown at times he can be really good. He is a tad undersized against players like Harden & Butler and he doesn't have a great handle, but don't sleep on him. He has been critical to the teams run.

He’s been our 3rd best player

I'll never say another bad word about KCP. He's been massive for us during this playoff run, and has stepped up in a way that I honestly didn't think he had in him. Huge props

From Pete:

One thing that's stood out while rewatching this game is how KCP is able to play at a high rate of speed without his fundamentals degrading, which is rare. That was the most competitive game of the Finals so far, and Miami's closeouts/rotations were on point.

That means how long a shooter is open is a very short period of time. KCP let a corner 3 fly after catching a pass on a short hop and drilled it, which is difficult to do. He sprinted to fill deep corner and his release on that jumper was quick. His straight line drive on Duncan Robinson was at full speed, and a lot of guys can overshoot that layup. A lot of guys get sped up beyond their skill set as the competition gets more intense, but KCP is right at home in that environment.

Rob the Prophet.

I cannot believe the guy who airballed layups in the first game of the season made pivotal back-to-back plays in crunch time of a Finals Game. Only in the year 2020.

And to think, many of us were having discussions as recently as this year about what (bleep) signings KCP and Rondo were, how Rob is an idiot for handing them free money every year for no reason. It's looking like the best possible of use of that money right now, and both deals are certified bargains (KCP still wasn't worth the $18M we paid him in 2017, though ).

When KCP was struggling early this season, there were rumors of him getting traded for JJ Redick and I cringed hoping that wouldn’t happen.

KCP is too versatile to trade for an old 3P specialist. That trade would have been disastrous. Good to see they stuck with KCP.

one thing I observed with KCP, he struggles at the beginning of the season and gets better.

he was bad at the beginning of the season but doing well before the season stopped due to covid.

then again he struggled at the beginning in the bubble and playing well now.

He seems to prosper when his role is well-defined and execution around him is effective - something that can be at low ebb at season start with new players fitting in and coaches experimenting.

Good post TPD, KCP isn’t the brightest bulb on the team and a well defined role is what he needs. I have been a fan since we signed him and if he gets a big offer in the offseason, then good for him and thanks for the memories.

Didn’t expect such kind words coming from you.

Tan has taken a lot of (bleep) from Lakers fans. His shot once made Kobe pick up his family and leave. But he’s done so many things for us. He has also been a gateway to Klutch, and eventually Lebron and AD. He’s been producing offensively. He’s always given his all on defense. He’s been the fastest Laker 3 seasons running. He plays almost every single game, only recently taking a game off before the playoffs. He is our Ironman, and should be recognized if we win this tonight.

Lol, I think he meant kind reply to the poster, not to KCP. KCP is underpaid, that’s my opinion

We have KCP's bird rights so we can go over the cap. It's very unlikely another team offers KCP more than we do

He earned his contract for sure in Game 4.

A huge effort by him, very gutty and much needed.

He is streaky and I didn't like the way he was getting backed down defensively but Butler earlier in the series, but he earned his stripes for sure in Game 4. Hope he has another big one in him tonight.

Great game tonight for KCP ...... he's playing with a ton of confidence, you
can really see it.

Hopefully he keeps it going for us on Sunday. We need all the help we can get.

If we tracked this dude's steps I'm pretty sure he's good for the rest of the year and most of next. He was chasing everyone off of screens.

This guy is a LEGIT championship defender. With big game potential. He showed up when it mattered most. Hope we remember him the way he deserves!

KCP! Love to see his growth on the team. Feels like one of our rookies for how long we've had him, lol. He's been with us through so much.

He's a champion, now and forever. Deservedly so.
