I gave an A-.

The DLO trade is controversial, but we can't judge it until 2018. But for NOW, we got Lopez/Kuzma and then KCP, so they collectively make up for DLO this season.

I was going to wait till after summer to make this poll, because I felt it was too early. But I gladly answered it anyway.

A.
They got rid of Moz & his contract. We got Bropez, Kuzma, & who ever capspace will bring.

They are directly overseeing Ingram's growth. Remember Ingram was struggling out there before Magic told him to seek out the contact. Now he's a baby monster.

Tampering Schmampering. We clearly know how the game works and are playing it to its full potential. How do we magically know that we need two max spots next season?

KCP. Grand Slam. Nuff Said.

If we can shed some contracts, especially Deng, and sign a decent back up point guard with our MLE, I'll give them an A++.

Pretty pleased so far. Was sad to see Russell go but that trade is a little TBD. Lopez and Young Pope are pretty terrific placeholders. We will see how they spend their money the next couple of years when they really have money to spend.

Incomplete, as we don't know whether the free agent strategy will work. If we get a couple major free agents next season, this is an A. If we don't, this is a D at best.

If I have to grade it just on the quality of the moves without giving any consideration to the underlying free agent strategy, I'd give it a C-. The Russell trade is a freaking train wreck without the cap space angle. Regardless of what you think of Russell, we did not get anything close to his market value, except for the cap space angle. Lonzo was the obvious pick at #2. Kuzma, Hart, and Bryant strike me as bench fodder at best, though I'll credit the FO for playing their cards deftly. Still, we wound up losing Nwaba, who is at the same level as those three. The FO did not play that deftly. I like the KCP rental.

I just love how every player they bring in (excluding Lopez who is sort of a salary dump) actually plays defense. That is key in my book and will help put W's on the board.

I love all the players they brought in and that they're really emphasizing defense which is incredibly important.

I was somewhat emotionally attached to DLO, was my favorite player on the team. I'm still pretty sour over the trade which I thought was a mistake so I personally give it a C.

It all depends on getting top free agents next year.
If we can't get nobody, this summer's been worth nothing.

I feel the same and I would not be going for a free agency approach but I acknowledge in terms of what THEIR vision is, they've done very well.

A + plus for me.

Kept our Eliot Ness, got rid of expendables.

Weeded out negatives and change the cultures

Suckered Brooklyn into taking Moz.

Snatched KCP and we ain't even a major playa in this year FA.

Maintain our sacred cap space for the big picture.

If they can get rid of Deng

It will break my scale

Even when looking at the drastic difference between 2016 and 2017 opening day rosters?

Respect your opinion, but I can't agree with that. DLO is a good player that can develop still, but he's not some transcendent talent we gave away. When they shopped him solo for a first round pick there were no takers in the top 15...that should say something.

Sums it up nicely.

A.

We are now outright stronger at every position compared to last year with high character, higher IQ players. Don't really know what else fans could reasonably ask for.

Will be an easy A+ if the FO can find a way to safely dump Deng.

One interesting comparison is to look at the estimated value of the players over the next five years using fivethirtyeight's CARMELO of last seasons roster compared to now (values in millions over the five year period):

2017-----------2018
DLo (88.3) ---Ball (134.8)
Young (-0.4) ---- KCP (94.3)
Deng (13.8)--- Ingram (35.5)
Randle (41.5) ---Randle (41.5)
Mozgov (-8.9) -- Lopez (61.4)
Lou (26.6) ---Clarkson (-3.3)
Clarkson(-3.3)--- Brewer (1)
Nance (64.2)-- Nance (64.2)
Zubac (27.1) ---Zubac (27.1)
Black (11) ---Bryant (7.2)
Calderon (-2.6) ---Kuzma (4.2)
Robinson (8.8) --- Hart (13.5)
Ingram (35.5)
Huertus (-2.8)
Ennis (12.8)
Nwaba (6.2)
MWP (-2.6) ---Deng (13.8)

2017 estimated value (315.2)
2018 estimated value (495.2)

Of course, the Carmelo analysis is not perfect as the projections may have a large variance. With the caveat that these estimates may be off, it does suggest that the roster has significantly improved. In addition, to the players on the roster having greater value. The cap situation has vastly improved, allowing them to potentially add additional value to the team.

B

-We were unable to sign any major free agents other than KCP (who I really like).
-Couldn't trade for PG (which I'm ok with).
- Not happy about losing Dlo but I absolutely love Ball.
-Still have old man Deng who may end up costing us Randle or Clarkson to dump.
-Drafted really well.

All in all it's been a good summer so far but I can't justify an A.

By mid season We'll find out if were still the no defense playing laughing stock of the league or if we grew some pride and leave it all out on the court.

B+ for me. I think that DLo would've ultimately been a casualty in any MozDeng deal we would've done in a noncontract year, which helps me get over the deal slightly. Every other move I've pretty much approved of. The only thing I never will agree with is the timing of our attempt to try to sign two max FA's, which prevents me from giving Maglinka a higher grade.
