Brook is the starting center.

I gotta admit, I really was loving Zubac's successes last season and was really rooting for him.

But Thomas Bryant so far seems to have a higher ceiling IMO. TBryant is quicker, probably has a slightly better outside shot and just seems much more active than Zubac.

Quicker with a long wing span is probably better than just being tall, right?

If for some reason Lopez becomes a longer term option, I wonder if Zu gets traded and what could he fetch?

What do you all think?

Bryant never played a NBA game. He doesn't have any advantage over Zubac right now.

True, but we are currently judging their performance in the same Summer League against the same opponents and I'm asking who is looking better?

Zubac is getting more minutes, right fully so, but all I'm saying is that TBryant is playing very well and with very high energy.

Zubac has been off but still better than Thomas Bryant.

Zubac will round into form eventually. Disappointed that he didn't take an off season regimen like Randle did given Magic's body fat % mandate. He'd look slow enough out there even being in shape so he looked like thick molasses the first few. 3 rebounds against the Sixers??? You can see how he's dropped a lot of weight from game 1 till now and that presupposes he put some of the lbs he lost during the season back on between April and now.

I think Bryant should be getting more minutes in SPL than he's currently being given but maybe they're committed to helping Zu get back into game shape. What I do know is that while TB is not yet ready, he's got a lot of tools to come for Zu's job later, especially if the current trend continues. TB is ALL energy and has a very sweet stroke.

Zu has been off in a number of ways.....just really dissapointed.

If Bryant shows he can hit that outside shot with any consistancy....Zu is in trouble I think

Not sure what is up with ZU so far but he is definitely off. Not at all the same player he showed to be last year.

T-Bryant will push Zu. Bryant is a good prospect but right now Zu is probably the better player because of his experience.
With further time and development, in both, the Lakers will be in a good position. The FO will also have some interesting decisions to make.

Bryant got brick feet and hands. Zu looks like hes getting used to lonzo and the ball being passed around.

Hes clearly off, but I think has the better hands of the two.

IMO, Zu is just trying to hard. It's in his head to be the best player out there and as a result it's causing some hiccups in his game.

both of them play like they are wearing ankle weights... even though bryant has good energy, he barely gets up off the floor and usually gets by purely on his standing reach...

definitely should be an area of focus with our strength and conditioning coaches.

also zu over bryant right now, but look for nance and randle to spend some time at small ball center...

I think Zu's IQ and more rounded skill set make him the better prospect. He's looked like doodoo but I think he will get it together once the regular season comes around. SL is not a great setting for his game.

That said, I do like TB and hope he can continue to improve his court awareness.

Bryant seems to have huge upside.

Zu has the higher ceiling, he showed a possible starting C material last season. T.Bryant has the emotion and hustle but back up potential for now

I think the draft shows the Lakers are keeping all their options open

Bryant could play Zubac spot

Kuz. Could play the Nance, Randle or Deng spot

Hart could play the Clarkson spot

Lots of room to tweak the roster for the future

Zu just have a hard time keeping up with the pace. With all the running and gunning, he's step slower on every play. I believed Zu is the better player but Bryant is the better fit. We will see how Zu can adjust but it's not looking good for him so far.

I wonder how many minutes Lopez will play and how many will be available for a backup center taking into account small ball minutes? I had assumed that Bryant would get significant time in the G League and am not sure that has changed.

Quite frankly neither has shown well enough to get minutes over Nance, which is who's going to need to play C if we are gonna get Kuzma on the court. That's the trade off IMO. Unless Walton just plans to sit Deng for the season, our backup frontline is Kuz/Deng/Nance.

What does that mean Lopez who will have similar issues?

Is he going to end up in the 20 - 26 min range?

If you guys hate Zubac because he's slow wait till you get a load of brook.

They are actually very similar. Brook being a seasoned vet with good scoring abilities. I wouldn't be shocked if Luke plays brook less than 30 minutes a game. Anyway to answer you're question I think Zubac is the superior basketball player. Maybe Bryant is better for the 3 point shooting style most teams are playing.

They're both what. 20? Both completely different players. Pie in the sky upside for one is Marc gasol. For the other it's deandre Jordan with a 3 ball. Do everything possible to develop both.

They signed zu to a 3 year deal just in case. They left enough cap space after signing kcp to do the same with Bryant. Lose on both and it's nothing. Hit on one it's a score. Hit on both and you have some serious juice.

Zubac regressed big time, but still looked better than TB.

I think Bryant may be better in time, but definitely not now.

Yup. This sums it up well imo.

Zubac had an off week in Summer League, he'll be back to form. Bryant's going to need a year of experience before we begin to know. Both have some significant upside and give us something to look forward to.

Zubac is a very poor mans BLo. If you have to pull BLo to match footspeed do you put in a slower guy in Zubac? TB gives you change of pace and helps you with matchups BLo can't handle.
