Quote: | Report: 76ers, Celtics to play in London
The 76ers finally appear ready to bear fruit after years of historic losing. Philadelphia fans are excited, buying tickets in droves.
But the 76ers won’t host a fully 41 games in Philadelphia next season.
Keith Pompey of The Inquirer:
It’s a little strange the NBA would take a home game from such a large market. There have been seven regular-season London games in the last seven years with smaller markets Denver, Orlando, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Detroit, New Jersey and New Jersey designated as the home team.
Attendance in Philadelphia was down during the tanking years, but this seems like fixing a problem that has already solved itself.
At least this should be an interesting game for London fans and viewers with national-TV access midday on a Thursday. Both the Celtics (Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, Ante Zizic, Marcus Morris) and 76ers (Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, J.J. Redick, Amir Johnson) have several key new players, who typically make regular-season games more intriguing. Even Joel Embiid, if fully healthy, would count as an alluring new development. |
