Our Summer League team wasnt just the best summer league team the lakers have ever had that I can remember.

But it was the best summer league team I've seen ever among all nba summer league teams.

Other teams have had top notch players. But these guys bought into the offense and understood it rather quickly(Zo, Caruso, Kuuz) obviously helped. BUt this is pretty crazy. They looked like they've been playing together for years once they got rolling.

Who put this group together?

WE had shooters, a hint of shot blocking. Guys smart enough to play spot defense in tight situations when you needed one stop.

after losing a lot of guys (PJ, BI, Hart, Zo)

Bring on golden state varsity team for best of 7 for the nba championship.

PnP, if you actually have watched enough summer league (and summer league playoffs) to be able to remember the best summer league teams, all the power to you. This is probably the first summer league championship game I've ever watched (unless the Lakers played in one before that I can't remember).

Couldn't tell you. As long as I've been a Lakers fan I've never watched every single SPL game until this season.

Usually, the prize rookies play heavy minutes in the first few games then just cursory minutes or not at all while the guys trying to make an NBA roster take over.

yep. felt like i was rooting for a college team i loved or something. and i rarely watch college ball anymore.

we better hide Coach JD... if he can do that with a rag tag group of young guys that just want to make a roster. what could he do with guys already under contract without that pressure in the back of their minds?

i've watched a lot of them. use to go to the pyramid and watch them in person until they shut that down.

it was never about the team. it was always about scouting individual guys on our team and other teams. They looked like a real team. thats virtually impossible to pull off with this many young guys and only one of them having played in the nba on the same team the prior year(BI), then he goes out injured and you get better? Where they do dat at?

Same here. I was thinking the same thing, I'm going to miss seeing these guys play together. We know Lonzo is headed for greatness. Kuzma is sitting pretty right now too. We know Hart will get his chance, Bryant has a contract, BI is untouchable, and Zubac will be on the squad come November as well.

But guys like Caruso, Thomas, Weir, Vander Blue, those guys are playing just to make a roster somewhere. They played tough as nails out there and earned wins in crunch time, taking body shots from bigger opponents and not backing down on night after night after night of competition. I'd like to see all 4 of them land an NBA gig some day. They certainly earned the good exposure they got in this tournament.

Before SPL started I tempered all expectations of our draft picks. Was preparing for disappointment. EVERY GAME WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE.

Enjoyed every moment!

I can't say this is the best SPL team ever for us, but I can say that I've only seen a handful of them in my lifetime. I actually saw every single game this summer because Lonzo and Kuzna are that exciting.

This year's squad bonded together like no other team.. I must admit that tournament changes everything and makes it that much more compelling.

The Long Beach SPL had little drama aside from seeing some PT for Kobe and the other draft picks. It didn't quite feel like a team, it was a super rookie and a bunch of relative unknowns (at the time). At the Vegas SL, this team forged an identity that won't soon be forgotten.

It was a greatly constructed team.

This team was perfectly built for modern basketball. Bigs that can run and shoot, guards that pushed the pace. They were watchable even without Lonzo.

Job well done from top to bottom!
