There is a way to keep Jules, but keeping KCP is going to be tough. I think he knows that it's a showcase year to get a big multi year deal.
With 2 7-9 year max players, we have a decent chance of keeping Jules. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I wouldn't ditch them for 34 year old Lebron if they have break out years. Lebron will have to come for a discount if he wants to be a Laker and live in Brentwood. |

I'd rather re-sign KCP and Randle, keeping a good core, and sign just PG13 |

I don't either but this thread is about the hypothetical scenario where he does become that kind of player
And imo it's a very fair and interesting question. Is it a dilemma? Or is it what magic meant in the first place. He never specified who the max was. |
I think most people are rolling their eyes at the hypothetical.
I really can't imagine Randle and KCP will play so well that they will be close to the same tier as Lebron and George. |

Keeping KCP makes more sense from a positional and need standpoint, even though he's not in the same zip code as some of the rumored players. What he would cost to lock up relative to George or Lebron is concerning. There's just not the same bang for your buck with a good player versus a superstar.

Flip both of them for assets, prospects, and picks.
THEN go after the big fish. _________________

Just to clarify, I did purposely avoid using language that would suggest KCP and Randle becoming as good or better than Bron and PG. I went with "near all star" because that to me is more realistic than them becoming legit all stars or superstars over night.
This conversation has been great though, it is helping me sort out in my head what would be reasonably ideal for me. I'm not sure I want to have someone play over Ingram. I feel like a defensive minded point guard and an excellent floor spacing Center might be more valuable than having both PG AND Bron. I might be happy with KCP (improved), Lopez, and Bron at PF as a better fit with Ingram and Ball. |

The OKC vs Lakers games are going to be really interesting this season.
Just all the dynamics with PG13, Westbrook and then Lonzo and the young Lakers and such.
Looking forward to seeing it. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

That depends. Do their breakout years lead to wins? If so then sign 'em and then just add one max player. |

If they have breakout years, then it is likely Ingram didn't. Somethings gotta give. |

Not true. They are not mutually exclusive. |

Keep Randle over Lebron if he has a breakout year? Just shaking my head. Seriously, it's embarrassing anyone would even say that. |

Well in that case we can pay 35MM/yr for the next four years of a diminishing (but still all star) lebron and lose out on a much longer term stud PF at much less money. |

Or we lose KCP and Randle, Lebron stays in Cleveland and George goes to the Spurs. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

That is just as likely to happen as us getting one of them. That is why teams typically don't give up their assets until they have an agreement. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

That means we're in the playoff, you don't blow a playoff team all under 25 (sorry Lopez), just give Lopez money to PG and tweak it from there |

If you dump Deng (a requirement for two maxes still anyways) and if you dump Clarkson.... so many people are missing this, but you can keep randle. Ironically you could max PG, Lebron, and Randle hypothetically in such a scenario so long as Randle signed last. _________________ How can I get a copy of a Laker game played on Sunday, March 11, 2001 Sonics/Lakers? Kcp breakout with 19 ppg and lockdown defense..
I'd think ud give up Randle if LeBron was coming in no? |

The Lakers won't have the ability to overpay KCP after two maxes sign. Unless the Lakers dump randle, Clarkson, and Deng... you can't even get close to what KCP would require next off season. Because with him his cap hold is not going to be low like Randles plus you have bird rights issues. _________________ How can I get a copy of a Laker game played on Sunday, March 11, 2001 Sonics/Lakers? If Randle and KCP have great seasons re-sign them both in the off-season and see if you can get Cousins. If not re-sign Lopez. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:
