I wanted to take the temperature of the average Laker fan regarding Julius Randle and the faith we have or do not have in him. Not sure what % of fans still have faith in him versus those who don't. So let's define his main weaknesses as these: (1) 3pt shooting and (2) Team/Individual Defense. Ready... vote!
***This is not a poll about Randle's ultimate future as a Laker, just about whether he improves next season*** _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

While I hope he has made improvements to his game I doubt he has been able to accomplish very much. _________________ Keep winning! |

Doubtful but this is the year to do it given his contract situation. _________________ We only celebrate championships.

Whoops voted for No when I wanted Yes.
He's been working on the jumper for a while now and he's been looking at film of Dray with Luke. I'm really hopeful that he'll improve on both aspects. |

I'm gonna vote yes only because I think he's put in a lot of work this offseason and shooting will improve from last season but I doubt his defense improves much. |

He should have been doing this for the past two off seasons. I'm going to vote No, in hopes that Julius makes me eat crow this upcoming season. |

I expect him to be quicker which may help his defense however, I don't think he'll ever be a pure shooter to LG standards. His shot and defense will improve but it will take more than one off season. |

I voted yes. I think his defense will improve but don't think he will ever be a consistent 3baller |

sexy poll. I would bet against him developing a three point shot. I would probably bet against him significantly improving his defense, but if the stamina thing was a real issue, then it's possible.
I think it's a little more likely though that he's beastly in transition and off the dribble, and thrives in an uptempo offense that has better spacing with the addition of guys like Kuzma/Lopez. So even without improved defense, he could make the Lakers think twice about moving on from him.

I don't forsee a big improvement in his shot.
Every time he makes a shot I always feel like the basketball gods diverted the ball in the basket.
I love his effort though. |

A Kuzma/Randle frontcourt could be beastly if Randle wasn't such a poor defender. The problem with our small ball frontcourt from last year (Randle/Nance) is that neither of them can shoot, which defeats the entire purpose of small ball. Kuzma changes that completely and gives us a potentially viable small ball frontcourt. But the guy playing up a position at the 5 has to be strong enough defensively to make it work. I think Nance/Kuzma would work well since Nance is an excellent team defender. Kuzma/Randle has more offensive potential though if Randle can get his act together defensively. |

JR's shooting is already much improved and I'm not worried he'll be able to score and spread the floor when needed. He's an elite rebounder and ball handler. He's crazy strong, fast, and is very effective at attacking the basket. He's also a very intelligent player. Let's not forget he's only played two seasons and has not hit his prime yet. I believe his lack of consistency night in and night out will improve with age and experience. I hope we can find away to keep Randle, he's a starting PF in this league imo. |

One things for sure, he has worked his ass off, and Lonzo will maximize his potential. |

Feels wrong voting no so I voted yes
Let's Hope he comes out just giving maximum energy on defense. He doesn't even have to shoot that great for me to be happy. Show the effort on close outs, switching and help defense and it will be good times. Basic stuff like proper screen and rolls, rebound, give it up and get out on the break, move without the ball. Those are the things that I'm mostly looking for. The shot will come. |

Shooting 33.3% from three makes it a viable option. That's 1 PPP
Obviously you want to see a number higher than that. But 1 point per possession is basically breaking it even _________________ Kobe |

I think Randle will improve in both areas because of Ball.
Magic said he wants us to run, run, run, run, run and envisions Ball leading the break and passing to Randle trailing for a monster dunk. But in order to run you first need to get stops. Last season Randle showed glimpses of being a good defender but his motor was inconsistent. He is now in phenomenal shape and with his improved stamina and conditioning he should be able to be more engaged defensively on a regualr basis. I think he and everyone else will play harder on defensive so they can get out and run with Ball.
He has been working very hard on his jumpshot this offseason and Ireland has said he looks much better. Last season Randle seemed reluctant to shoot and instead preferred to drive instead of shooting the jumper. In summer league guys receiving a pass from Lonzo would have a quick trigger and look to shoot trying to get him an assist. If Randle (and Nance too) can develop that same mindset and become more aggressive shooting the ball and less timid I think they'll have greater results. Lonzo is a great leader and even if they miss shots he will encourage them to keep shooting which will boost their confidence. |

Voted yes because I think he will be a much improved player overalll.
Not sure he meets LG standards though. I am not expecting a huge 3pt increase. Taking 3 and making one a game would be significant but is 33% going to satisfy fans?
By getting easier shots in transition and getting better entry passes I think 18pts a game is not out of the question. On defense I think being in better shape and with the second year of this coaching staff/system Builds some consistency. Improved defense by KCP and hopefully Ingram makes the entire team better. |
