One thing would not do is trade assets for Deng and get nothing back. It would be foolish to give up a first rounder for Deng. That first rounder could be the next Kobe.
The only thing to do is to stretch him after this year. It is just a price to pay for the big mistakes of the past FO.
Would just let this season play out and forget about Deng. If he can play and be worth at least 1/4 of his salary, that is the best that can be done.
The Lakers are not the only team with a bad contract, although it may be the worst.
Don't mortgage the future to make up for the mistakes of the past. |

Funny how different the opinions can be on this issue. Not a criticism just an observation.
IMO I prefer adding draft picks if they can and choose to move Deng..
The Lakers have assembled a young and talented group. Not sure the draft picks (mid 1st? or CHI high 2nd ) are as important as developing the youth and free agency over the next couple years.
I like the potential of the current young players. The future is now if they can be patient with developing them. Moving Deng with a draft pick or two just adds to the financial flexibility but maintains some roster stability. |
