The reality is that the Lakers will probably ride this one out. If the
FO gets really creative and attach a piece we're not expecting, we will
have another DLO type feud; trade aren't easy and we'd need to give to
get.

Deng is done. I doubt he plays much this year.

Do we even have any news about him ? Has he been working out with the lakers ?

Deng plays out of his mind, Wolves teetering on a playoff spot and get desperate to give up actual assets for Deng.

He'll probably stick around and then get salary dumped in the offseason with asset(s).

Most likely is Deng does not play enough or is a unimpressive, and thus is stretched. I think we will try very hard and will be paired with anybody not named Alonzo or BI, if it will make it happen.

I do this...

Then trade clarkson and Bryant or kuzzma for melo and wait for lebron in 2018...

I would not trade Kuzma for Melo even if it were part of a Deng salary dump. I'm that high on Kuzma and just not willing to do it. I'd trade Randle before I traded Kuzma, given the impending RFA status of Randle and given how cheap Kuzma is going to be over the next 4 years.

He's traded for multiple players with less total salary after this season (aka Webbered circa Philly). That/those remaining players are stretched or traded after this year.

e.g Hawes/Delly; Temple/Koufos; Faried/Nelson; Gortat/Smith/Satoransky;

After the season ended, this is what he said.

Quote:
There’s a bitter taste in my mouth,” Deng said. “I just gotta come back with a chip on my shoulder. This year started to build a fire inside me. I don’t tell people a lot of times because I carry on not being as competitive, but I’ve got a lot of people to shut up next year.”

...

“I feel like I worked very hard coming into this season and continued to work hard,” Deng said. “It was just one of those, just the way the team was made up and having to learn so much, I had a hard time trying to be consistent in the system.”

Yeah that's smart. Ideally they could contribute this year.

Keep in mind that if deng is only stretched we essentially have no way to acquire both Lebron and anther max. We could however, acquire two maxes such as cousins and pg if he was only stretched. I think we'd be hard pressed to find a taker for dengs contract by attaching only a future pick.

We would have enough for 2 maxes if we stretch Deng, so long as JC is traded for no future salary coming back. The issue there is that we would have very little flexibility to do anything else but sign the 2 max guys, and that includes any chance of keeping Randle.

Here is an opportunity.
Brandon Knight just tore his ACL and could be out all year.
He has 3 years remaining with about $13M-$15M
We can trade Deng and a 2018 2nd (or 1st in 2022 or a player) for Knight and ~$3M in expiring contracts.
That gets us down to $14M average instead of $18M average.
If he recovers, much easier to trade Knight than Deng.
If stretched, it is about $5.5M/year instead of $7M/year.

Deng won't likely negotiate his guaranteed $72,000,000 down; hell, I sure wouldn't even if I were he and not washed up. That's a lifetime's worth of money for a rich man, most of it is still queued to come down the pipe to him.

17-18 $17,190,000
18-19 $18,000,000
19-20 $18,810,000

We're stuck with him until - most likely - some top contending team loses a front line forward mid-season to injury (San Antonio maybe, OKC perhaps.) Wait for it, and in the meantime, let's hope Kuzma, Randle and Nance and Deng stay healthy all year.

We ask him to retire after this season. Make him Assistant to the Regional Manager. Deng and his 35-year-old son will fill the void we have when Rudy T & his son were let go. Problem solved. When the league investigates just to make the small market owners happy, Magic just smiles and winks at Adam Silver and all will be fine!

I think Deng will get dealt and will wind up with the T-Wolves. It seems so obvious. Tibbs has a since of loyalty to those old Chicago guys and if there's a way to make it happen, Tibbs will have him in their. My guess is that it will take another team to get involved, a team that has nothing to lose and everything to gain. I would project LA getting a player and the third team getting a player with some future pics involved from the T-Wolves.

I think a potential deal would be to S&T Shabazz Muhammad and get him in the Purple and Gold, he's out in Minny.

Either way, I fully believe he will be gone by the start of the season, there's just no playing time for him and his salary will hurt us in the long run. Thanks to Jim and Mitch! SMH

We're going to see a much improved version of Deng this year. He's rested, healthy and hungry to prove himself again. Lonzo will make him better than ever.

What's obvious to me though are the flaws to this version of the Deng solution: Shabazz doesn't pass the ball well (or at all) and has shown little career effort on defense. He's nearly the prototype for the type of player we need least.

Only way I see Deng moved is if Randle balls out! Beyond all our expectations. Then, maybe. He becomes good enough sweetener to be paired with Deng for a salary dump.
I think Clarkson could fetch a pick (another salary dump). Without sweetener needed.
