What does he want with the Lakers? Doesn't he want a ring with Cleveland? I mean if he wants to play 20 minutes off the bench, then sure, I'm all for it. I'm glad the Lakers are already attracting FAs. The Lonzo effect is real.

Lonzo effect? Magic effect in any case.

Think more 25 minutes in the game, don't know if at point if he's
here, he'll play.

Yea, the Lakers are in the driver's seat as he'd have to buy into their role for him if in fact they become his best chance to showcase himself. Walton got Lou and Nick to buy in, is Rose impossible?

JC is already leaning to being expendable for the greater good plan vs LA worrying about him becoming a stud worth risking such plan. If you can swap him for offset Deng ammo and maybe sign another vet min guard like Ennis I'm happy.

12/12 ish at pg/sg would be fine game wise, but it will tank JC's value, making him harder to move. Especially in a deal with Deng attached.

I had a hard time deciding. I'd be surprised if Magic and Rose both agree this is a good fit. Magic because he's looking for a vet to mentor Ball and I'm not sure Rose is the best mentor, and Rose because I'd be surprised if he's OK with coming off the bench for spot minutes when Ball needs a breather.

I voted 'yes' though, because if they sign that means Magic's not worried about Rose mentoring Ball, and Rose is fine sitting for 33+ minutes per game.

I voted no before reading the comments.

After consideration, although I question his intellect I don't question his ability to play.

If he's willing to play a limited role and be a positive influence (on and off court), and/if it's better then the Deng and Moz contracts I can't really complain because if healthy, he can actually contribute.

I'm shifting to OK but not a full on bonafied yes, at least not yet.

I don't like it because I thought we were trying to move away from shoot-first, ball-stopping, inefficient players. And Rose doesn't strike me as the wise veteran mentor type. But I guess they know what they're doing.

Lose Dlo, Mozgov and Nick Young

Gain Lonzo, Brook, KCP, Rose and Kuzma....

I would say that is one HELL of an offseason.

Gaining Rose would be great. I want Lonzo to play and play a lot but I also dont want to wear him to the ground.

Rose would also help us screw Philly and Boston by at least pushing toward 35-40 wins this season.

Yeah this isn't the kind of signing I stay up to celebrate if it does happen. I'm not sold on his ability to bring in extra wins anymore, but there might be some utility in spot minutes if he can settle for this.

Absolutely, you can't have too many playmakers on the team. A former all star and is only 28. He would make us that much more competitive.

Meh. Too much risk for distraction and potential bad influence on the young guys. I thought that was the point of getting rid of the three stooges.

No, unless he wants to take a short and cheap deal as well as shut up and play.

I prefer signing Deron Williams and Ian Clark.

I believe we have 12 players under contract currently. 3 players we have rights to (Ennis, Thomas Robinson, MWP). Alex Caruso was a two-way contract signing.

Not if he interfers with Lonzo's development.

Lonzo needs the burn and the ball in his hands a lot.

He needs to make mistakes and play a lot of minutes to get better. He can't get buried. He needs to run that (bleep).

Mark Schanowski ✔ @MarkSchanowski
The allure of playing in LA for the greatest PG of all-time, Magic Johnson, might be too tough for Derrick to pass up.

No. Way.

Just let JC run PG, because he at least makes a concerted effort to pass when he's put in that position. Then run Ian Clark next to him.

I don't mind if they sign Rose as long as he sticks to his role on the team and does not complain about minutes or starting since Lonzo is obviously not going to the bench for him. He can be a spark off the bench like Lou Williams.

No brainer. A motivated, healthy(yes optimistic) D-Rose and Clarkson off the bench will reek havoc against team's bench units(typically not much rim protection). This will also be a complete change of pace from the starting unit led by Lonzo which is good.

Very high upside, low upside(you just cut him if he becomes a distraction which I don't anticipate).

For D-Rose, this shows to other teams he has the maturity to accept a role as 6th man, third guard role which he is best suited at this point in his career. If healthy(again a big if), Rose is a 6th man of the year type of talent and will get paid accordingly next off-season.

Apparently we had a long meeting that "went well" with D-Rose.

Honestly, i would be full on on Rose joining the Lakers.

Rose would give us a very good opportunity to mix our game style and to address Mr. Deng situation...

He averaged 18 ppg, 4.4 ass and shot 47% from the floor last season on 32mpg. These are nice stats in a bad team. He also played 64 games this season and 66 the previous one.

With Rose playing like a 2 guard Backing up to Ball AND KCP, we could give him around 30 minutes a game.

What would we get from Rose signing with us:

- A SG that can create his own shot regularly (better than JC),
- A PG with a different style than Lonzo that could help us mix the system when needed,
- A veteran that the Kids actually respect,
- Some added excitement to improve our marketability next year.

What will Rose win by chosing us over the Cavs:

- More money,
- More minutes,
- Playing on a rising improving team will rise his stock,
- Will not be part of the blame (bench) when the Cavs lose to the Warriors thus hurting his stock.

Also, what do you guys think of that:

If D.Rose joins us, why not try to move Deng immediately packaging JC and Larry?

I mean, Kuzma and Randle would be more than enough. JC isn't any better than Rose as an offensive SG.

To me, this signing would make perfect sense.

Memory is a little hazy, but this feels a tiny bit like the Rodman signing all over again. Initially the thoughts were that it was a questionable pairing with Shaq, + many had a bad feeling that he wouldn't mesh with the team on either end of the court, but what the hell, let's try it anyways despite the red flags. We can sign him to a prorated contract for cheap, and just drop him (which we wound up doing) if it doesn't work. More talented warm bodies couldn't possibly hurt, right? Half the fanbase was giddy because DENNIS RODMAN. LET's COLLECT MORE NAMES, but it was clear to everyone, even his fans, that he wasn't the player he once was, and this was before the actual signing. Other half of the fanbase was wondering how the hell does this fit with what we were trying to do. Turns out his severe limitations on offense were screwing up our already flawed and sometimes stagnant Del Harris/Rambis offense. In the end, he wasn't worth it (despite us winning the first 9 or 10 games, I think) and was worse than what we had already tried (Travis Knight/JR Reid). We knew he wouldn't fit, but we tried it anyways.

I worry that the FO plan here is to do a sign and trade swapping Clarkson 3yr deal for Rose on a 1yr deal

I would much prefer if we could do a sign and trade to send Deng and maybe....Hart and Zubac? to the Knicks for Rose on a 1yr deal. Dreaming of getting 3 stud FAs here.
