Was it good?

I'm considering either Dunkirk or Baby Driver tonight.

Haven't seen Dunkirk. But baby driver I enjoyed. Best car driving scenes Ive ever seen. Movie is heavily influenced by music in the same way guardians of the galaxy 1 was.
I'd see baby driver.
But Christopher Nolan is the man. He may get Americans like you and me to care about a random British battle. Even though we know how it ends ahead of time.

It was good, I liked how it was 3 stories told throughout over different lengths (1 week, 1 day, 1 hour).

How did Cillian Murphy get on the capsized boat though?

Meh, it was alright.

If you're looking for some good aerial dogfight scenes, you'll be pleased.

Not even close to Saving Private Ryan.

What was this movie even about? Don't understand the acclaim.

Dunkirk was good. The historic and military pretext of the battle itself are much more interesting than the presentation in this film. Not an all-time great by any means but worth the price of admission especially if you respect it enough to pay for the proper screening room--70mm, IMAX, 70mm IMAX, etc., if you can find a theater that is still showing it that way. Sound is 10/10. The only complaint I have is that much of what little dialogue is in the movie was delivered in some of the other English accents that aren't as easily intelligible to most moviegoers and if you don't have the ear for it, you definitely missed some pivotal lines.

It was torpedoed by a U-boat.

Baby Driver was awful.

Dunkirk was good imo, but its no masterpiece. I didn't care for the three storyline gimmick.

I found baby Driver to be very overrated. I thought it was good at the beginning and then slowly nosedived as the movie went on.

The plot got more and more ridiculous as the movie went on. Still worth watching though.

I liked the movie, but Hardy's ending was beyond ridiculous. Won't say more so I won't spoil it.

I thought it was an interesting piece of filmmaking from a technical standpoint. Obviously visually stunning. The sound work was great. The editing very well done. But to me, the non-linear/vignette approach didn't come together in a compelling fashion.

I won't say I was disappointed, but I feel it came up short. And part of that is because to me it felt like a film where a lot had been cutout for various reasons.

Spoiler alert: The Germans don't win this one.

Offhand, I can't recall a WWII film made after the war that ended with an Axis victory other than films about the Holocaust. I think, maybe, "Tora! Tora! Tora!" but I can't remember how that ended.

I didn't enjoy "Dunkirk". It just moved to slow, especially when you already know how it will end.

It wasn't intended to be that kind of storytelling. Hence the vignette driven approach. It was a here's how this event played out for the people that were there film. The conclusion was obvious forgone. It was about the moments. And it did that pretty well from a technical standpoint, but I agree it wasn't particularly satisfying in the endeavor.

Why is it being lauded by critics as a masterpiece? I really don't understand why.

People were saying it was Nolan's greatest movie. Far from it. Still enjoyed some proper directing though.

Dunkirk was boooooring! It will probably win a bunch of awards and the music and visuals were pretty awesome, but the story was extremely slow. I can see how movie aficionados and lovers of the art of filmmaking would love the movie. I give it a big thumbs down.

Good, not great. Incomplete character development

If you want to see good ww2 movies saving private Ryan, Bridge on the River Kwai, and the Thin Red Line are better

One of the things that lead me to my earlier comment about it being a film that felt like it had been cut down considerably.
