The one thing I didn't know about this whole ordeal was that he was doing coke during his Laker years. He never says how often or how much, but it still surprised me.
come on now think about it.
you guys remember when they revealed how much candy he eats. it was so much so you had to realize he had an addictive personality and he had a thing for getting quick rush even though it meant a hard drop off. which is exactly what happens when you eat that junk candy. at best the candy was him trying not to do coke all the time.

Nice article. I think this shows how important it is to have a healthy family environment, especially your parents. People who were abused or neglected as kids are much more likely to do hard drugs or turn to other destructive behaviors later on. I feel like the Lakers, and especially Phil and maybe Kobe were like the loving and stable family environment he didn't really have as a kid. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
Really powerful read. Amazing to think that he was a functional drug addict in those championship years with the Lakers. Life dealt him a hand both wonderful and terrible, and it's no wonder he struggled for so long. Hoping he now stays sober and on the straight and narrow.
He's lucky to be alive. Reggie Lewis died 24 yrs ago today of something not caused by his own self-destructiveness. They never definitively proved coke in his case.
Story reminds me of Richard Pryor's in a way. He was on drugs at least as deep as Odom and he poured a glass of cognac on his head and lit it and ran down the street on fire. He said in an interview that he looked at his hand and there was a blue flame and he realized he had just lit himself on fire. He did it with his friends in the house while they went in the kitchen. I don't think there was an explanation other than that toxic mix of drugs and depression. His early life was B-A-D like Lamar's too. Sometimes you hear about what happened to someone as a kid and you can actually grasp why they tried to destroy themselves via protracted suicide or immediate suicide.
That's the quote rite there:
Nah, I wasn’t blind to it. Shame … pain. It’s part of the whole cycle. My brain was broken. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Lamar is a good guy, you never hear a bad thing said about hm. I was really pulling for him and was about to lose hope , but he made it. I hope he can hold on to what he has now. He has a lot to live for.

I saw lamar at the airport last month. It was around midnight, he was standing alone waiting for a ride. I ran up and hugged him and told him i loved him and thanked him for everything and let him know that all of us laker fans appreciate him. Very nice dude, I wish him nothing but the best. Hands down one of my most favorite lakers to ever wear the uniform. He looked good and im really glad hes doing better. _________________ "THIS IS OUR TURN, THIS IS OUR CHANCE, THIS IS OUR SEASON...THIS IS OUR CHAMPIONSHIP!" - Kobe Bean Bryant
Damn just read it. Powerful stuff specially about losing his kid in 2006 I believe, I didn't remember that. Lamar was my 2nd favorite player during our championship runs. Hopefully we keep him around in the facilitates and hope that helps.
Probably not the right first thought, but pretty incredible we were able to win 2 titles with him as the #3 guy given how unstable he was.
I love LO though, one of my favorite Lakers. Definitely underrated IMO.
he wasn't unstable on the court. thats where he found stability.
its like this. you can't control LIFE and Death. but you can control basketball. He saw so much death so early in life. how else was he supposed to cope without jumping off a bridge? i've always said, the fact he's still alive even before the incident is a miracle. and that miracle is what Lo needs to use to push thru the demons. Why are you able to endure this type of stuff. most people that are talking about you being a crack head, etc, etc(when it was happening). would not be able to deal with this much loss. we can almost guarantee quite a few people would've taken their own lives after he lost that child after all the other loses.

It was mentioned when he was a Laker. He has a portrait of him tatted on his chest I think. _________________ I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

They had an ESPN special on that. So heartbreaking

Sure on the court he was fine, my point is he could have gone off the rails sooner (Las Vegas incident, OD'd, etc.) and that could've have taken him off the court. Basically right after he was traded to Dallas, he imploded.
I know I'm trivializing it, but it's an interesting aspect of that 2008-2010 run.
