Biggest thing is if this team can end up going on winning streaks, Pelinka did say he will try making the team better during the Mason and Ireland show.

This is the best thing possible to us, though I think the Clippers/ Memphis/Denver are more legit competitor than us on the 8th spot.

Put another way, if one is looking to grab repeat wins against clubs we've beaten already, the schedule contains only one more game each with Phoenix and Brooklyn, but three more with Memphis (though two are road games.).

Improving the win rate is definitely possible, though thirty-four road games lay ahead, thirty-one at Staples. Challenging, yes. It will be fun to watch.

Yeah if we get the 8th seed we'll have it for about two games tops, check out our upcoming schedule after these next few.

What if this team is ready for the challenge of facing tough opponents in December and January? Let's at least give them a chance.

Kind of a fun fact. Since the LAL/CHI game is the only one today, if we win we're technically the 8th seed at 8-10 (0.444).

Let's do it! That'll get the media talking. Especially with our ESPN game on Wednesday.

And what if they are not?

We should just wait and see before talking playoffs after 17 games. We're above that. We're Laker fans!

5th to 8th seed isn't really a lock in the West right?

GS
Rockets
Spurs
*pretty Sure OKC will get that 4th spot. They are too loaded not to.

Then the others are not really sure bets. Tpups probably but who knows. They are young and bound to make mistakes.

Denver will have no Millsap for most of the season. Jazz are Gobert-less for a while. Should be a fun race for final playoffs spots.

Still early, but how funny is it for Paul George to look at the standings right now? We don't even have to finish with a better record than OKC. If we are close, PG13 gets justification to leave. Shoot, I don't even want PG13. But the more options, the better. I want Lebron and Cousins.

Last year, the Lakers were 10-10 on November 30 and then went 2-14 in December. This team is better; I don't see them swooning like that.

Will this team make the playoffs? I doubt it--but the young players are starting to improve and the team is playing defense. Who here predicted that 18 games into the season the Lakers would have the #4 Defensive Rating at nba.com (link)? This is completely a positive surprise. If BI, Randle and Ball develop a consistent outside shot in relatively short order, the Lakers could make the playoffs.

The only game this season where we had no chance was the first one against the Clippers and they have had difficulties since.

I think if you assume we lose the Warriors/Rockets games... which are five out of fourteen games in December... and we go 4 and 5 against still mostly good teams... its not a bad month as long as we are competitive with all games. Strange to say, but 4 and 10 is a decent return if you look at who we are playing. On the other hand if we steal one of the Warriors/Rockets games... and go 5 and 4 with the rest and go 6 and 8 for December, I'd say we did really well.

If we finish November going 2 and 1, we'd be 10-11
If we finish December going 4 and 10, we'd be 14 - 21

But then we only see either the Warriors or the Rockets 1 more time the rest of the season. I think if we can stay relatively close to .500, and as the rookies mature, we can start playing better than the first half of the season, the eighth seed is in reach. We are currently fourth in defensive efficiency and seventh in 2pt FG%, but because our 3pt FG% is dead last and we are 29th in turnovers our offensive efficiency is terrible (28th)

I think our 3 pt shooting improves simply because it seems impossible to continue shooting that poorly the entire season... it already has the last few games... and turnovers are the most fixable thing. If we keep improving on those two fronts... a near .500 record and 8th seed is not out of the question. If we don't improve significantly, then we are looking at a 30 win season if we are lucky.

As I said to those who scoffed at the idea of us signing Rondo... it would be very ironic if the Pelicans kept us from the eighth seed. Well, here we are. OKC will probably improve enough to get there so we will be fighting with the Pelicans and Grizzlies and possibly the Jazz and the Clippers too.

I expect these teams to pass us during December... but then the key is for the team not to lose heart and fight their way back. It's still a rough road even after December but at least we have a chance. The theme of this season should be character building for the future and if we can compete all season and not fold like last year, then signing the FAs should be very achievable.
