I just called NBA radio they said Lakers have a better chance at being the worst team in the West.
I totally disagree with that I say we we get that 8th seed |

Brook Lopez = 20/8/2 player (all star #s and talent, but wont make it in the West)
Ingram = 18/5/4 player this season (from what we seen in summer league)
Ball =14/8/6 player this season (ROY favorite)
KCP = 16/3/3 player (our best catch n shoot player) borderline all-star
Randle 14/10 player (dude looks ripped and improved his shot. locked to avg a double double)
Ennis, Kuzma, Nance, Zubac bench
HELL YEA we making playoffs. |

The Lakers will win between 30-35 games next year IMO. That's not enough to get into the playoffs. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Yes, the team did get better, but so did the western conference as a whole. |
Somewhat disagree. If CP3 stayed with the CLips and Hayward stayed with the Jazz, then yes, I would say it got tougher since the Wolves added Butler. But one team improved in the Wolves, and two teams got weaker, that helps us.
CP3 in Houston and PG13 in OKC are moot, since those were already playoff teams. |
You're neglecting that even playoff teams getting stronger means they become more likely to beat us in the regular season. Meaning we're less likely to steal a game from OKC on a Nick Young 3 like last year. |
Well, that goes for every borderline team trying to make the playoffs. Tough all around = moot. The best chance for a team to make the playoffs is for talent to assimilate in one team instead of disbursed. I'd love for Damien Lillard to join the Rockets as well. LOL!
To me, we got two playoff teams who got weaker in the Clippers and the Jazz. One team improved in the Wolves. Not only that, we've improved. Regardless if they make it or not, their chance this year is greater than their chance last year. |
I agree, and I agreed with your logic, was just concerned you weren't factoring in stronger teams getting stronger so the flukes are less likely with them. |

Lonzo Ball will be an immediate high impact player. He doesn't depend on his strength, but rather his basketball IQ and passing, neither of which will take time to develop.
KCP is a big upgrade at the two and will give us the first strong defensive guard in years. His fast style of play will also mesh very well with Lonzo.
Ingram is ready for a big leap at SF, and Randle looks ready to take a leap at PF as well. Randle also is a very good match with Lopez, who can play the stretch five and thus give Randle space inside. Lopez overall will be a huge upgrade over Mozgov from last year.
Clarkson has been working hard in the off-season, as has Nance. Ennis finished the season strong and will pick up from there. Kuzma and Hart are both 22 years old and ready to contribute right away. I expect Kuzma to surprise a lot of people by continuing his hot play and hot shooting into the season.
Zubac looks like he regressed a bit, but I expect him to get back up to speed by the season opener. If he doesn't shine (or even if he does), Nance or Randle can also slide over to the five, giving more minutes to Kuzma (and, if needed, Deng.)
Luke will be in his second year of coaching with a lot of lessons learned from last year.
And most importantly, the team will have every incentive to win, and no incentive at all to lose. If they are close to a playoff spot, they will be fighting all out to make it.
This will be a fast, exciting, and gritty team that will win 40+ games and make the playoffs. |
I agree with this. I mean, a lot of things has to go right for it to happen - no major injures, Lonzo having a great first year, BI continuing his play that he displayed during the latter part of the season and that one SL game, Casey P and Lopez having career years...basically if everyone steps up their game the way we want them to, they'll make the playoffs. I definitely thinks it's doable and if everything goes right, they'll be fighting for that 8th seed. |

Is 35 your total even with great chemistry and a big leap jump from our main guys? |

Yes, I expect Ball to have his ups and downs, Randle to make a decent leap and Ingram to make an even greater leap. I think there will be some inevitable injuries and, unfortunately, we play in the West where there are just a lot of decent to good to great teams. Going from 26 to 35 wins would be a pretty sizeable jump. Would it surprise me if we got to 40 wins? No, but my best prediction is 30-35 wins. Even at 40 wins, I don't think we make the playoffs though (albeit it would be much closer). _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

I voted yes because they can, although I don't think that they will.
1 gs
2 hou
3 sas
4 okc
5 min
6 pdx
That leaves 2 spots with utah, den, clips, mem, pels and Lakers.
Denver should be able to get the 7 slot, leaving a big scramble for that last slot.
I think the Lakers come up short of the 8 seed, but show a big improvement from last year, even if it' not always reflected in wins.
The progress of our young guys is all that really matters anyway. |

We will have 2 MIP candidates in Ingram and KCP who both might end up going bonkers next year, we will have a starting C looking to prove that the Nets made the wrong decision and we will have a PG who will look to show his Impact.
Come on folks, this team can end up anywhere from 35 wins to 50 wins.
There is so many things going our way right now that other teams in the WC don't have. |
Would tend to agree with this except the Nuggets think they'll finish 33-49 which is a step in the right direction from last year and hopefully gets Magic a meeting with some talent 7/1/18. |

Good post LS.I will be thrilled with 40 wins but once again the real eye test begins in preseason when we see how the team chemistry is and how well the players are buying into the system, things can end up looking really great next year in terms of giving a Impression on FAs and playing consistent basketball. |

The poll should be 100% yes. Of course we CAN make the 8th seed. We can also go 82-0.
Whether we will? Different story/question. |

I'd like to answer after 20 games. We really don't know how much Randle and BI have improved and we don't know if the Ball Effect on shooters will translate in the real season. Basically, we're in if Kuzma and Lopez start shooting over 40% from 3s. |

I think we could have competed for the 8th seed last year if it wasn't for the injuries and the ensuing mental collapse of our team. That to me will be our biggest catalyst in seeing not only a win-improvement, but a much more competitive team that won't get blow out nearly as much as last year. Magic has everyone's spirits high, that alone will add a few W's to our record everything else being equal. There is no question we have the talent for it, but the mental aspect of building that chemistry throughout a tough season will be the key to our turnaround. Just ask Ingram. |

Will we get the 8th seed? - Probably not.
For me at least three factors have to come together:
1. Limit of injuries.
2. How quickly we gel.
3. If the addition of KCP and the maturation of BI, leads to an overall significantly improved team defense. |
This, and I vote Yes to 8th! |
