About the only things I see sticking out badly in any LGer's suggestions about the expected roles, rotations, or time spent on court for anyone regards the five man slot.
I see folks expecting minutes-per-game at center for Randle or Nance. I don't see that coming to pass.
I think that all indications now point to the club's plan to not pursue "small ball" (using a micro-center or an undersized center) this season, at least to the extent that the health of the four main, natural centers permits anything otherwise. I see Nance and Randle competing for time at the PF slot with Kuzma, each playing alongside another bigger man at center all season. |
So we really expect the team to play out dated ball? Showtime, no small ball. What a disaster if it comes to pass. |
Personally, I interpreted the Bogut signing as insurance against Lopez's injury history, but yeah I'm calling the carry of four 7'0" centers a not-so dated a concept. It's the Warriors who can pull off the small ball unit with their shooters and defensive interchangeabilities around the horn. The 2017-18 Lakers have nothing even remotely close to the concept on the roster this year. If one is going to play to strengths, play to your team's strengths. It could be a worse disasterfor the Lakers to try going small ball, right ? |
No, the NBA is all about matchups. Our centers are too slow footed to match up with other small ball lineups. We will need Randle and/or Nance at center to do that.
And I agree about Bogut as Lopez injury insurance. |
Except that only one team actually plays small ball well, the Warriors, whom the Lakers won't out compete in 2017-2018 anyway. Don't build to compete and lose to them; build to compete as best you can year by year. I think Lopez and Bogut are each on one year deals here. One year at a time, one step at a time. |

A one Lonzo (48) and 4 Kuzma team would be NBA entertainment at it's finest. |
