Does Magic's role with the rising Dodgers give you confidence in his role with the Lakers?

Dodgers are doing pretty well right now. Some people say magic had a role in the turnaround. Does this give you confidence in a successful lakers' turnaround as well?

I wanna say yes!

I don't think Magic actually had a role in what's happened with the Dodgers.

You are probably right. But think of it this way. His association with the Dodgers gives him the aura of success. It may increase the confidence of basketball free agents in his leadership ability.

I heard something about magic also investing in a new MLS team that will come to LA. Hes got his hands in everything

Magic's surrounded by about 6 other guys that know what they're doing more and have a higher stake in the Dodgers than he does, he essentially is their mascot owner at this point.

Here he has a lot more power than he does with the Dodgers.

Whether he was solely responsible for the Dodgers or not responsible at all, I don't see how it's relevant to the Lakers.

He's a figurehead for the Dodgers; on the Lakers I think he has a much more prominent role and b/c basketball is his "expertise."

True, IMO Magic has a positive effect on both teams but success by both teams is more of a timing/coincidence thing.

I don't follow the Dodgers but if there are specific examples of decisions/changes made by Magic for them, I could see that.

But no, I don't think his mere presence as a minority owner has any impact whatsoever.

Magic has changed the culture and tone of the Lakers. I think we will have a good shot at 2 max players next summer. There were some painful moves to be made (namely DLO) but I think it will work out for both parties in the end.

As in any business management has to make tough decisions. Trading D-lo was a tough one but I think it will workout for all involved too.

yes 100%. Magic knows what he's doing. He's one of those people that what ever he touches turns to gold. He will make us champs again!

His presence is more of a PR coup for the Dodgers than anything.
While it improves their image, promotes their mission and spreads good will; it does not have any impact on the finished on-field production.

The key is Magic knowing his limits, and letting qualified experts do the things he can't. He was a terrible coach for example, but if he can be the face of the front office and recruiting magnet, while letting the rest of the FO handle personnel moves, i think it can work out well.

What exactly is he "doing" with the Dodgers though? With the Lakers, he's making decisions, changes, etc so, he should definitely get credit for any success or failure we have.

It doesn't hurt, but I don't think he's that involved with the team's roster moves and such.

Is the new management team even responsible for how well the Dodgers are doing? Give them Chris Taylor and Alex Wood, but every big gun, even Bellinger, was acquired under Ned Colletti's watch.

He hasn't, but facts have no bearing here.

Also he sold all his shares back in 2014 so I don't know why he's being credited for dodger success 3 years later.

Except when he was a head coach.

He's still a co-owner of the Dodgers. He doesn't have much of a role, but as far as I know, he didn't sell his shares.

No since he had zero decision-making power when it came to roster construction.

But he was a good rah rah guy with the Dodgers. There is no reason he can't be that with the Lakers. The Dodgers are successful because they put good baseball minds in decision making positions, that is the opposite of what the Lakers did.
