Seems like a better spectacle if you can get to a place with 100%. Otherwise, it wasn't that big of a deal especially here in the LA area. The temperature dropped, the sky darkened a bit but really didn't seem that different than a normal cloudy day.

supposed to be the darkest here (Florida) @ 2:51....I notice outside my office window all the cars are using headlights, but it looks like late evening....
Charleston, South Carolina looks like it was the most eventful place to watch the eclipse, since there was lightning in the background, and you go to see the corona once it went 100%.

I wonder how many people in undeveloped countries who don't know looking at the sun without filters will go blind?
Now 11:55am in Los angeles the sun is piercing white. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

They wouldn't be able to see it since this event was only visible in the USA. People in Mexico and Canada probably were outside of the range making it not worthwhile.

Thanks, good to hear.
EDIT: I wonder how many country bumpkins here in the will go blind out of ignorance? Not believing it to be true?
Our president looked directly at it with no glasses or filters. SMH _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Serious question: What's the big deal about this eclipse if you weren't in the path of totality? Aren't there multiple partial eclipses every year?
I looked at it and it got boring after about 30 seconds...
Certain areas got like 87 percent coverage here in Illinois. Carbondale got totality but much of that got covered by clouds that came in at the last second

I would say in general, people love science; especially when it is easy to understand and also a rare event. I recall as a kid everyone talking about Halley's Comet. Is Halley's Comet a big deal....I guess not so much to the average guy on the street, but knowing that your likely only going to get one chance in a lifetime to witness it creates intrigue.

But California isn't in the path of totality, so it wasn't a once in a lifetime event at all. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

What if Jeff Sessions decided to make it illegal? Just because he can and has a prejudice against people chilling together and smiling

I've seen so many pictures of the sun as it was eclipsed without anything else in the frame for reference but here are some pretty cool ones with people/objects in them that provide perspective.
