If by some small chance we get penalized for this and can't get PG, say goodbye to bronzie probably too... |
Dont think anything will come of this; but I do find people's shock on here kind of ironic.
A lot of people have been making fun of how Mitch played within the rules and they have been cheering Magic to completely ignore all of the leagues rules...
Now people are shocked that we may get in trouble lol _________________ Llluuukkkeee |

Yeah, Ramona Shelburne has made fun of Mitch multiple times since he's been fired for playing within the rules and not tampering. |

What a tool Simon is. I bet him and Gilbert are best buddies along with that miserable idiot Robert Sarver in Phoenix. |
Was Bosh playing for the Lakers when Phil was fined for tampering? It doesn't matter. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Wouldn't George just stay in OKC with Westbrook? Not a lot of teams that can give him the max. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

So can this actually result in us being ineligible to sign him? |

Technically yes but tampering is very hard to prove. Could be fined too. |

Of course, just wondering what the punishment would be. Well out of Jeannie, Magic, and Pelinka, Pelinka's been around too long to get caught doing something this stupid... |

I thought one of the knocks on Mitch was that he was one of the last GMs who still didn't tamper. |

We would be forbidden from signing PG and they could take away future picks. |

Everyone does tamper
What this confirms to me is there was no way the pacers were trading PG13 to the lakers.
Magic did make it worse with the national tv wink wink. Lakers are being watched closely after that one. I'm sure eyes are on them too with respect to meeting Lebron's people and rich paul "calling" them about kcp. That stuff is normal usually but there is more attention and eyes on it because of big mouth magic. |

I highly doubt this is gonna prevent us from signing George, if anything the Lakers will be facing a fine of some sort, or the league asking the Lakers and Magic to apologize and that's it. |

There would have to be some sort of a serious paper trail to support the allegations for the penalty to those levels.
Quote: | 111. What is tampering?
Tampering is when a player or team directly or indirectly entices, induces or persuades anybody (player, general manager, etc.) who is under contract with another team in order to negotiate for their services. The NBA may impose suspensions and/or fines up to $50,000 if tampering is discovered, however the league's practice has been to wait until a team lodges a complaint before investigating (but that's not to say they don't continue to monitor the league and won't take action independently if they discover that tampering has occurred). Here are some examples:
The Miami Heat were discovered to have tampered with Pat Riley in 1995 by negotiating with Riley while he was the head coach of the New York Knicks. The Heat "settled," and avoided league-imposed penalties, by compensating the Knicks with $1 million and their first round draft pick in 1996.
The league fined three teams (Hawks, Kings and Rockets) because of team statements to the media, team emails to prospective season ticket purchasers, and articles posted on team websites related to players under contract with other teams, but who would become free agents that summer. For example, Kings coach Michael Malone stated in a press conference that "Chris Paul would look pretty good in a Sacramento Kings uniform."
You may have noticed that when general managers and other team personnel talk to the press, they are careful to avoid talking about specific players who play for other teams. They do this in order to avoid tampering. The only allowed response when talking about players under contract with other teams is to decline comment.
Player-to-player tampering is considered to be a relatively common occurrence, and while technically illegal, it is rarely addressed by the league. For instance during the 2016 playoffs, Mavericks player Chandler Parsons referred to Rockets player Dwight Howard saying, "[. . .] I think he can still be a player in this league. And I think he's going to leave Houston, so why not come here?" Former Commissioner David Stern clarified in 2012 that such player-to-player recruitment is generally "not tampering or collusion that is prohibited." |

I don't think people were asking Mitch to do more than any front office. Just the same. Mitch was too conservative. |
