How Lakers Young Core Compares With Other Teams In Same Mode
Minnesota, Philadelphia, Milwaukee; Opinions, comments are welcome.
Quote: | At least three other franchises have been in the same predicament and pursued this same strategy, which makes it only natural for the Lakers to be compared to, and their progress measured against, these other teams. |

I want to say we're #1 but it's hard to say that with a straight face.
Feel like 100% healthy, Philly has the best followed by Mil. Minny already has 2 guys scoring 25 a game.
We have yet to see Lonzo play in the NBA regular season and BI had a pretty dismal first year. Randle has been average thus far despite showing flashes, and Nance is a nice role player. Clarkson has 6MOY potential. Need to see Kuzma and Zu more but Kuz looks like he could be the real thing. Hart is very much an unknown but I think he'll be a Nance like role player. Bryant-- no idea.
So in many ways, I'll score us an incomplete until we see year 2 BI, see Julius with Lonzo, and then see Lonzo in regular NBA basketball. We could end up special. |

Needless to say all three teams are trending upward.
It seems that Minny and Philly started their rebuild a season or two before we actually went into the rebuild mode. Thus they may (or may not?) have a slight edge for now.
IMO this year's draft harvest, by the Lakers, has laid the groundwork for some special and exciting times to come in Tinsel Town.
I envision us moving ahead of both teams quickly with the addition of two max players next season. |

The Wolves are probably far ahead of the others due to the vets they have added. Philly could have only $18 mil in guaranteed salary next offseason, they could really change the landscape. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Probably around 5th best. But we will likely be augmented with 2 max players next year. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

IF we have (I kind of think we do, but it remains to be seen) the best young player in the league then we have the best "core". Depth and having more young, quality role players is not as meaningful. Stars move the needle. |

Impossible to know right now really
Best players (maybe) on these teams
Embiid
Simmons
Ball
Ingram
Towns
Black Greek
Wiggles
Fultz
Jokic
Booker
Which one of those players will be the type of player that carries a team to the playoffs perennially? If you have an answer, I believe that team has the best future. If you count the Greek Freak he is already that guy but if not I would bet on Ball or Simmons. I don't trust Embiid to stay healthy. |

Are the Bucks really ahead of us? I'm completely out on Jabari. Thon will be good though, Brogdon a solid starter as well. I guess so
Probably tied for 4th with the Nuggets. |

It very hard to rank how good we are but I like our core, the Wolves, Bucks, Nuggets and 76ers
I might have missed a team but those are the teams that stand out to me. |

Yeah the Nuggets probably should have been included in the article. They are pretty solid too. |

Bucks alre definitely ahead of us. Winning games and already have an all-star, and other high upside guys too.
Hope Ingram is our Giannis. |

Maybe it's Lonzo who gets in Giannis' ballpark as a star. Then I'd take Ingram over their next two pieces, and Kuzma is up there with their other pieces. Yes I'm being an optimistic homer. And like i said, I think Jabari is compromised or injury prone |

you think? just a little? oh well, I will take optimistic homers any day over being pessimistic about our team |

People seem to be rating teams, not "new young core." I honestly wouldn't trade our complete core for any other you want to rank ahead of it. |

Maybe. And I like Ingram too. Kuzma has yet to play an NBA game. Hopefully our young players develop to be as good if not surpass theirs. |

Agreed, plus I really like the pieces we've accumulated. This past draft (Ball,Kuzma, Hart and T. Bryant) has our future looking very good. I think these players, especially Ball, are building blocks to a championship caliber team. |

How can you separate the two? The Wolves young core will likely look better with Butler than without. Star veterans can elevate the play of younger players. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

IMO Minny & the Bucks both have that luxury. Thus both are at least a year ahead of us. If we land two stars it puts us back in the ballgame. |

You separate it by responding to the title of the thread the way the question was asked. It had nothing to do with whether Butler is more valuable than Lopez. |

Also, Butler's just about to turn 28. I'd consider him part of their young core. |

Considering young players alone those teams seems to be ahead of us, mostly due to a couple of high lottery picks that may not even be in our roster next season, but we have space to turn those 'lost' picks in a couple of superstars and then we will be ahead of all those teams, including Minnesota that have a legit all star in Butler.
I like our current plan, it is a matter of converting the cap space in high quality players before Ingram rookie deal expires.
If Randle improves enough to be a keeper over players like PG13 and LeBron then this scenario changes. |

It has everything to do with their impact on their respective young cores. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

So that's the cutoff that was intended when the question was asked? Every team has a young core. Many teams better than the 4 or 5 mentioned have guys 28 and under. Why not put them all in the conversation and then we'll be discussing and rating 30 teams with a young core?
