PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2017 3:53 pm    Post subject: Losing Weight: Fasts Diets Exercise

I've had about 30 extra on me for the last couple years.

For two months straight I lifted almost everyday and built some muscle and didn't really care I had extra weight since I was getting stronger but my blood pressure was still pretty high.
I hit the weight hard, too hard and hurt my shoulder I should of saw that coming not very smart on my part.

For the last three months I decided that I would cut since I couldn't lift. For the first month I tried to walk and count calories but It didn't work for me because I would lose willpower all the time either counting or being hungry.

So I changed my plan dramatically and water fasted 48 hours every week.
In two months I have drop 23 pounds and my blood pressure is now perfect (the first time in a longtime). I look much better and feel great. It wasn't easy but it hasn't been that bad and I kinda enjoy fasting. It's also retrained my brain to think of food differently since i know i can go so long without eating and be fine

I've done a lot of research before i decided to do this not everything was great but mostly positive. I believe I have retained more muscle mass than I would have on a low calorie diet since my keto level rise after 12 hours which makes the body burn more fat for fuel.

It might not work for you but for my body I'm going to continue to do this for 7 more pounds and then I'm going to switch to a 36 hour fast every 10 days or so to maintain my weight also I'll lift weights again since my shoulder feel better now.

Yeah, I've been reading about intermittent fasting for quite some time. Ones that actually commit typically have favorable results. But here's the thing, it's not easy at all. I've watched people on youtube try 12-16 hour fasts for just one week and they absolutely hate it (although they admit they look better). There was a time when I fell into depression and didn't have much of an appetite. I would fast probably 14 hours every day and only pick at things here and there but I would have a good dinner (I don't like fast food, so I never ate bad bad). But yeah, I dropped weight pretty quickly (my clothes were fitting me big) and that was way before I read about intermittent fasting. But once I researched I understood why it happened.

I had open heart surgery last year and during the recovery process which consisted of me laying in bed for months I gained a ton of weight.

I started doing intermittent fasting once I was able to get up and walk around. I fast for 16 hours, so I have dinner at 8pm and don't eat again until 12pm the next day. I do have a protein shake with no carbs or sugars around 10 am.

I started a Navy Seal workout I saw online about 3 months ago, I went from not being able to do a single pushup because it was too painful to now I'm doing 300 every other day.

So far I've lost about 57lbs in about 8 months. Started running when I started the Seal workout and even though I still suck at running I'm running 20 minutes MWF, and sprints on Tue/Thur/Sat.

Yesterday morning I weighed 213lbs which is the lightest I've been since my early 20's. I'm 42 now. Post surgery I hit 270lbs.

I lost 70 pounds seven years ago by simply eating smaller portions. Once I got used to eating less, it was easy. I still eat food I shouldn't, but instead of eating a small pizza, I eat an individual one. And I save money, if we eat out I get two meals out of one. I have reached a balance in my body, for the past 3-4 years I have weighed 190 every time I have been weighed. Of course what helps is that during hernia surgery 7 years ago there was nerve damage in my stomach and I never get hungry.

Does 48 hour fast mean 48 hours straight with only water? I couldn't pick it up from the articles.

Congrats. I've always unwittingly done intermittent fasting because I skipped breakfast and usually ate late lunches. I've been going Keto and never felt better in my life.

The amount of complete bull we were fed by paid off studies has created a nation of diabetics and people with heart issues.

Love that with the free flowing information of the internet, so many unhealthy misconceptions are being put to rest.

Same here bro. I've been keto-ing & wheat-free for a while now, the mental focus is wonderful and the need not to eat every few hours is liberating. I do IF daily with only unsweetened green tea, matcha green tea or coffee/coconut oil mix. Some nights I'll throw in full blown fasting days. I play small buy-in ($125-$225) poker tournaments weekly and being mentally sharp is pretty critical. I have been killing it on fasting days in particular. I have logged almost 30k in winnings since mid June.

Regular days:
Wake up: Green Tea/or Coffee & coconut oil
4pmish handful of macadamia nuts
11pmish Large portion of Fatty beef & Veggies (brocolli/cauli/asparagus/etc.) smothered in 'butter-flavored' coconut oil (nutiva brand), desert is 1 tablespoon of coconut/almond butter mixed with 2 "Smart Cakes" warmed up for 30 seconds in the microwave (google smart cakes, they are gluten free and ketogenic and (bleep) amazing).

Poker days:
Wake up: Green Tea/or Coffee & coconut oil
4pmish: nothing
7pmish: plain green tea bag at the casino
11pmish: more nothing
3-5am: even more nothing with a side of everyone's poker chips (hopefully)

Good listens on audiobook (audible)
Primal Fat Burner by Nora Gedgaudas & David Purlmutter, MD (He also wrote Grain Brain along with Brain Maker which are two other excellent reads)
Keto Adapted by Maria Emmerich
The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz
Keto Clarity by Jimmy Moore & Eric Westman, MD

Watch some of the youtube videos and lectures with Peter Attia MD and Dom D'agostino. Two bad ass scientists.

I don't think it's that difficult to do interrmittent fasting. Many of those fasting hours happen when you sleep. So you really just wake up, and go a few hours without eating. I think the biggest issue is it can be awkward to fit it into your schedule.

Some people argue that it's a bad idea because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Personally, I don't think it's that important and eating breakfast can make me hungrier later in the day.

I dropped 35 pounds from March through July and have been holding steady there. I began prepping my meals days in advance with a kitchen scale. Getting all my macros. I cut out all juices, diet sodas, alcohol, etc. Drank about 80oz water per day.

I started with 25 min treadmill. No running/jogging, just fast walk on incline. Slowly upped it 5 min every few weeks until I reached 40 min. Weights 3 or 4 days a week.

The first month I lost 15 pounds without even working out. Honestly if you're just trying to get rid of the fluff, diet is more important than working out.

Now I'm just maintaining my weight, so I'm able to actually eat out more and most importantly, have a drink here and there.

Not everybody's insurance plan do this but mine did:

My BMI was (is) over 30 and for 3 months, I was covered 100% for personal trainer (3x/week) and weekly RD nutritionist counseling (this was 2 years ago) so if you're one of us dad bods-big bones-chubsters, call your medical insurance company and find out

I have no idea how people are able to eat three times a day and stay under 2,000 calories. It's even tough eating twice a day, assuming you eat foods which are actually enjoyable.

Lunch is usually 4 eggs, 2 turkey sausage links, big bowl of spinach or spring mix (no fat no sugar salad dressing or mustard) and one small red potato (eat the skin as well) and a small orange or cutie. Sometimes I'll substitute the eggs with chicken.

Protein shake mid afternoon.

Dinner is 8-12oz of protein (usually chicken or cod), big bowl of spinach or spring mix, small red potato, and 4 strawberries.

Sunday I allow myself one meal to go crazy. And I do.
