What happened to Marches, Peaceful Protest, the MLK, Gandhi methods of making change?

I've asked myself, how much of Islamic State and Al Qaeda's actions are what the people as a whole want? I think the number of those who approve are minimal.

It's difficult for me to believe the PEOPLE are that vicious. The groups mentioned are led by tyrants. The people as a whole live in fear and poverty the leaders live high on the hog using fear and oppression as tools.

I like to believe this also.. I hate losing hope in the human race. But those dudes at the top are pure evil.. and they need to be met with force. no amount of diplomacy will change a psycho's mind.
