Wow. |
No way this thing needs to miss Florida. Its supposed to hit Florida directly and touch down on Sunday. |

Latest has Irma hitting South Florida as early as Saturday noon.
People in the Keys are being told to evacuate and leave immediately because law enforcement will be evacuating as well and there will be no emergency services to help.
If this thing doesn't lose steam in the next 36 hours, and hits the Keys, it is going to be catastrophic. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

That last sentence is chilling. It's projecting to run right up the middle of Florida and still be Cat 1, (75 mph winds and above) all the way up. |

I've been to the keys a couple of times. It's mostly wooden structures on low ground. Any meaningful high-water is a disaster. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I know there are some people that are hunkering down trying to weather thru the hurricane but that seems a bit crazy to me....considering that the winds can pick up large debris like snapped off trees, cars, metal poles, and even ships and toss them thru a wooden house. |

There's a reason they're telling everyone to get the hell out. Law enforcement is bailing. Tiny isolated islands in the path of the biggest storm in history? |

If Irma spares Florida and totally destroys one, just one well-known property in Palm Beach, then I will start believing there's a god. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

Looks like it turned into a Cat-4 earlier than expected. Still has to go through some land in Cuba, so it might turn into a Cat-3 by the time it hits Florida. |

Does anyone know if hurricanes gain strength in the water above Cuba/before Florida? |

He's a billionaire adrenaline junkie. I'm willing to bet that his wine cellar is only slightly less hardened than NORAD and provisioned much much better. |

Jose strengthens to Cat 4 probably going to strike the same Caribbean islands as Irma. |

Jose won't touch the US but I heard it will cause additional devastation on those islands that were already dealing with Irma. |

never going to happen...that place has 3 feet thick concrete walls, and steel hurricane straps drilled all the way through the foundation down to the coral.....actually surprised the media has not began to try to put pressure on the location to become a shelter....because it is probably the safest place in South Florida. |

I agree, generally it really doesn't, but this one will have about 100 miles of near 90 degree water to try to strengthen.....honestly, people get caught up too much in if it is a Category 4 or 5 storm...but 150 mph wind will do as much damage as 160 mph.....especially when you tack on the speed of the storm to the front right quadrant of the storm. |

Donald Trump Got $17 Million Insurance Payout for Damage Few Recall
Donald Trump said he received a $17 million insurance payment in 2005 for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, but The Associated Press found little evidence of such large-scale damage.
Two years after a series of storms, the real estate tycoon said he didn't know how much had been spent on repairs but acknowledged he pocketed some of the money. Trump transferred funds into his personal accounts, saying that under the terms of his policy, "you didn't have to reinvest it." _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Damn!!! Donald may not know ish about running a country but he knows all the angles on how to bilk unsuspecting contractors, gimmick schools, meats, hotels, the IRS, insurance companies and likes.
I dislike him more and more on a daily basis but still have to give him credit.

Unless the playa is a poor person. Lots of people seem to have a problem with poor people that use loopholes to take advantage of a given system, but when a millionaire does it, he's just a good businessman. |

Plus the storm surge, they are predicting that it could be as large as 20 feet. Not many structures can survive that without significant damage. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |
