Holy balls, this is total agony. I had two terribly impacted wisdom teeth so I think this is hitting me pretty hard. I've been out of work all week, I'm a complete mess. What's everyone else's wisdom teeth experience?

I had one wisdom tooth. I don't mean that I had one impacted tooth - I mean that I only had one wisdom tooth. When it became impacted, the Dentist reached into my mouth and just plucked it right out. No pain killer, no operation - nothing. it was literally a 5 minute procedure, the bulk of which was exchanging pleasantries and filling out forms. From what I gather, I had a very unique experience.

I have mine in but they happen to be growing pretty straight... So there's a risk for them becoming impacted but it isn't an immediate problem. What do you recommend I do? It sounds really painful. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Working at a dental office, i recommend you take ambien (or get prescribed) take 1 hour before your appointment, go in get them taken out, wake up, going to be painful, take your pain meds as needed and eventually it will wear off. Good luck _________________ Indianapolis Colts

Mine were not impacted and were removed on a Friday morning. I took the weekend for recovery and was back at work on Monday. It was pretty gross to remove the gauze from the holes where teeth used to be, and I couldn't eat much for a week or so, but the norcos kept me content. A couple months after everything had heeled, I spit out a tooth splinter that worked it's way through the skin. For a couple years, there was another loose splinter or fragment that I could move around a bit under the skin. Kinda creepy, but no ill effects.

My top wisdoms on both sides became a problem and I needed them plucked in the middle of an unfortunate lapse in coverage which I had no dental insrance so I paid 200...or 400 for the extraction of both. I went in expecting to be gassed but the son of a (bleep) DDS only gave me the numbing shots! I was terrified. I made him dope up my mouth real good to make sure I was numb. I could feel the middle of my skull being yanked and torqued but otherwise no pain. Extraction went perfectly and I didn't end up needing the vikes which were prescribed. I maybe took advil twice over the first couple of days but only because I ate a burger hours post-op (don't do this). I had cold sensitivity problems in the back of my mouth for 5-6 months.

The bottom ones are now pushing my teeth inward so I'll have to get them out sometime soon.
Had the same experience...didn't want to get knocked out so I just got numbed up and you could hear the wisdom tooth breaking as they yanked it out....

Call me crazy but i loved the cracking and twisting sounds of getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Did all four at once. Would love to have the experience again
I had one of each, sedated and awake. Neither were biggies, imo. I'm not squeamish about any dental procedure. The sedated one was actually like nothin. Woke up thinking they hadn't even started and I felt GUUUD from the anesthesia. Now I know why Michael Jax wanted the horse tranquilizer on the DL. I had a root canal years ago where they gave me Vikes and when I took that the first number of times, the euphoria was killer. These were Vicodin, not Norcos, I don't know if that dentist years back overprescribed, but my current one would never give Vikes. It took me nearly 30 yrs of my life to figure out why people got onto opiates and heroin. I found it a lot more understandable if not acceptable.
Here's my cool story, bro. Worst dental experience I ever had was a root canal on a molar. I was taking antibiotics for a week and they had rescheduled me like 9 days after they prescribed it. It was on 12/23/03 (I remember the date, it was that bad) in the PM, dark/raining/people already travelling to Xmas, so that might've played into the scheduling. Anyway, I started to feel a twinge of pain in the damn thing that very morning I was supposed to go in after a week of taking my ABs, thinking all the infection was out. I told the dentist that and he shook his head and said I dunno, but I had to leave work early to go to this one. So I went ahead and lemme tell ya. White knuckle affair. A shade under Marathon Man. He was jamming that hook and drill in there over and over and I was flat as a board and crushing my hands between each other. Felt like a sword was jamming into the cavity. My stomach hurt from clenching afterwards. What pissed me off the most is I could barely eat on Xmas Eve and Xmas and I didn't want to, really. It ruined the food aspect of that year's holidays. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

I had my lowers taken out a year between each other because one of them was still under the gum, but I started to feel this grinding or ratcheting effect like a torque wrench action on it under the gumline. I remember my dentist said she wasn't qualified to pull that one because it was too under the gum or impacted in a weird way. I had to schedule some other specialist she had on staff to pull the tough one. That was the easier of the two on me. I blinked and they were waking me up. I felt love in the world with that knockout juice, that was a side benefit. I felt zero pain and no complications at all. The one that was almost fully exposed she had to crack out, but she's a kind, patient, smart, thorough, caring, younger woman with small hands and tiny fingers. Gurlz rule. The prior bastard I had was and old idiot who was near retirement and did shoddy work. I've had to have one of his root canals retreated. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

similar experience for me, I really do not remember anything except counting backwards and the next memory I was home in my bed....but that was back when they more freely prescribed painkillers. I had a close friend have hers removed a couple years ago, and they sent her home with very minimal pain killers, and she suffered more than I did.

My daughter had two pulled last week in emergency surgery. It cost $222 for the surgery and $30 for the meds. She was at work the next day, toughest person I know. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Missed four days of work in total agony, can't open jaw, bogged down on pain meds and barely getting through work today
My guess is the level of pain depends on how impacted the tooth is, and how many you took out at one time....I only did mines one at a time so it wasn't bad at all.

I had my top ones pulled out a few years ago, both grew kind of backwards and ended up touching my jawbone at the back, making it sore.
Went a lot better than I expected, didn't have any issues and went back to work an hour later, the only awkwardness was that my mouth was still numb from the injections and still bleeding a bit. Worst part about it was the embarrassing feeling of "am I dribbling?" _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
I'll tell you the truth...I was having some pain 5-6 years ago. My wisdom teeth were partially erupted, and were kind of growing sideways, so as to cause a compaction.
Long story short, I had crappy dental insurance at the time, and the oral surgeon quoted me some very large number. I ended up not doing anything, and to this day, I haven't ever had any problems with them. No pain, pressure...Nothing.
In Honduras, it's about $3 to get a tooth pulled. Once had a gum problem where a piece of it stuck out and inflated. Over here in the U.S., they charging $900 for the surgery. But instead went to Honduras to visit family and got the surgery for $50 and plus more.
But hey, it's the American Dream to be insured and in-debt. _________________ (❍ᴥ❍ʋ) ʕʘᴥʘʔ (⌐ ͡■ ͜ʖ ͡■) (┛◉Д◉)┛( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽
