Women’s tennis player challenges Kobe Bryant to match

CoCo Vandeweghe defeated No. 1-seeded Karolina Pliskova in two sets in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Open on Wednesday. It was a pretty big win for the niece of former NBA player and current league Vice President Kiki Vandeweghe.

Needless to say, Coco herself seems to be confident in her ability.

How much so?

She just went on record challenging the great Kobe Bryant to a tennis match. No, really.

We really want to see Kobe take her up on this. It could be this generation’s version of the Battle of the Sexes. And much like Billie Jean King, there’s no reason to believe the woman wouldn’t win in this specific match as well.

For his part, it’s no surprise Bryant has tried his hand in tennis. What hasn’t the former Los Angeles Lakers star done in his life? Unfortunately, a match against Vandeweghe would probably result in his embarrassment.

Well, unfortunately for him.

What an attention seeker. Challenges a prominent athlete who isn't even from her sport.

This is getting really stupid.

How about someone challenge someone to something neutral? Like Charles Barkley vs. Cher at Mortal Kombat II (Sega Genesis version)?

LMAO they brought up Billie Jean King. She beat a guy who would qualify for the reitree discount at Dennys.

I think the last matchup between active players was Venus and Serena when they played Kaarsten Brasch who was like 250th in the world and he crushed them while smoking during the match IIRC.

Now Kobe vs another retired NBA player. I'd watch that!!

On today's episode of "What are you mad about?"

Seriously? This is obviously a playful thing. She wants to challenge him and he knows if he accepts, he'll lose. I'm sure Kobe will lose with a smile and laugh it off.

Table tennis for charity sounds like an ideal compromise. Get Kershaw, Williams sisters, Agassi, and other sporting celebs involved with one of the major networks.

Funny you should mention that Dirk Nowitzki jokingly I believe mentioned he wanted to challenge Peyton Manning to a footrace.

Probably not going to happen.
