How do you usually watch Lakers games being a cord cutter? How do you get access to the games broadcasted on Spectrum? I would love to cut the cord, but I haven't figured out how to watch games (other than sign up for NBA LP and use a VPN...).

NBA League Pass and Sling TV.

My cable was getting to be like $230/month. With cord cutting and subscribing, it's about $100/month.

wish i could do that. my internet speed is (bleep).

Even with the internet today, and constant news and connection with the Lakers, its amazing the anticipation of a new season is still always exciting.

My mom would buy me S&S every summer we would take schedule and mark a calendar with the games. my mom is greay she lovrs the Lakers she wad thevobr that introduced to the game listening to games on radio for home games and kcal away until we got cable circa 1984?

Can you elaborate more? Here are the questions I'm interested in, and thanks in advance for the reply...

-Are you out of the state or in CA?, if in CA, do you use a VPN to watch the Lakers?
-Do you have NBA League Pass on a laptop and push to the TV via Apple TV or whatnot?
-How does Sling TV help out in terms of sports?
-Are you able to watch Sportsnet/Access Lakers with your current setup?

Non-CA.

I watch League Pass on my Apple TV or iPAD.

Sling lets me watch games on TNT/ESPN.

I can't watch Sportsnet.

I'm cheap as hell but I pay for one cable tv line in and then take that signal and spread it around the house with these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FB1NTP6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

so the main cable line comes into the living room, then I'm sending that signal from the cable box to a smaller tv in the kitchen for when I'm cooking and the game is on and I've got another unit in the bedroom. The tv in the kitchen, I just got a 24" Samsung from Costco for $105, and hung it on the wall, I mean... come on... that's a good deal I had to adjust the picture size to zoom 1 in the kitchen so I miss a tiny bit of the picture at the bottom of the screen but you don't even notice it and the picture quality is great. I was watching tennis on it, no problem. The living room tv is the main one I use anyway. But, about $115 after taxes for the tv and about $55 for a set of two of the transmitters for another tv and then you're only paying for the one line coming in, not just for the season, forever, basically and you've got tv in your living room plus another room.

Brook Lopez says he will be ready for training camp

Really liking how the identity of this team is shaping up: sharing the ball and defense. The roster is filling up with players who can bring something on the defensive end as well as offense. Even guys we've criticized for their defense like JC and Randle spent the off-season working on their defensive movement and we've increased our depth a bit so they shouldn't have to coast as much on that end.

Uptempo is the way to go when you don't have guys who can break down half-court defenses and there's really no one on the roster who's exceptional at that. I thought year one of post-Kobe we'd see it but like Luke said, it's hard to run when you're taking the ball out of the basket. I guess it starts in year two. Next off-season we work on getting that go-to guy in the half-court.

While that is somewhat true; the Showtime Lakers did it all the time but, of course, they where talent-rich at the time.

He said exactly the same thing last season. At times it looked like they had not practiced any defense at all during the season.

We heard they were working on defense all of last year's training camp too. I think we have some players who have higher IQ on that end this year so I hope it translates. KCP, Lopez and 20 year old Ingram should all be upgrades over last year. Lonzo and Randle are to be determined.

The defense also looked relatively decent at the start of the season too, so don't just gloss over that part. At least this year they have a lot more players who are capable of playing defense and actually have that desire to stop people. Wasn't the case last year.

During our sizzling hot 10-10 start we gave up an average of 109.5 ppg to our opponents, including 149 points to the Warriors in a 43 point beatdown.

Even if you toss that one out as an outlier, we gave up 107.5ppg in the other 19 games. I don't know what team that looks relatively decent next to

Lol I was thinking this in my head. I watched every game last season and even during our hot start we weren't a good defensive team. Assuming we were wouldn't matter much anyway. You have to play 82 games not 15 or 20.

"But there is improvement on the defensive side of the ball, as well. The team allows 103 points per 100 possessions this season compared with a league-high 109.3 in 2015-16, improving its net rating from minus-10.7 to plus-1.7 this season. To put the Lakers' current performance in perspective, if they can sustain their net rating all season, it should be good enough to put them in the top half of the NBA."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2016/11/07/luke-walton-has-the-lakers-improving-ahead-of-schedule/

The point I was making was that the focus on defense at the start of training camp had an obvious impact to start the year. Clearly, they weren't heavyweights by any means, but I never claimed that they were. When you couple the number of young players with the fact that most of them had "learned" defense under Byron Anton Scott himself, how much improvement would you anticipate after one training camp? Good defensive teams aren't built, let alone sustained, after one training camp. Especially when most of the players in the rotation are either first/second year players or veteran players who have had little to no interest in playing defense throughout their careers.

Considering all of those things, the way Luke was able to get them to compete defensively at the start of the season was impressive. As opposed to just reacting they were at least developing some semblance of understanding how to rotate and make reads. With more players who are willing to play defense with some capability, I do think they'll be better, especially with a marked focus on it at the start of training camp. If it can have a positive impact on the kind of team they had last year, it can have a positive impact on the more capable team they'll have this year.

Nance is my favorite player on the team and I do clearly remember him making the biggest impact defensively early in the season. He was covering so much ground, creating turnovers, it felt like there were 2 of him out there. And then injuries happened, and that version of Larry only showed up in spurts the rest of the season.

I do expect to see improvements on defense with another training camp. We added some vets who actually show out on that end (KCP, Lopez, Bogut). They set the bar pretty low as one of the worst defensive teams in the league, if not the worst. If they can just stay healthy then that'll be an improvement over some of the guys we were forced to play last season.
